To Hold Annual Open House on October 23, 2019

Free Public events from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm on the IAIA Campus  

 

SANTA FE, NM:  October 3, 2019. 

The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) will be holding their 2019 Open House on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm.  The campus is located at 83 Avan Nu Po Road, minutes from the intersection of Rodeo Road and Richards Avenue, on the south side of Santa Fe. For directions and a map of the campus, click here.  The event is free and open to the public. Light food and refreshments will be provided by Bon Appétit Café.

All attendees should check-in to the event in the Performing Arts and Fitness Center, located at Entrance One to the campus.
Numerous area high schools will be invited to attend the event earlier that day: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, for their students to enjoy activities and presentations specially tailored to potential new IAIA students.

The Open House will feature exhibitions and demonstrations of all types throughout the campus -- with open studios and classrooms -- plus a Bronze Pour - a special experience - taking place at the Allan Houser Haozous Sculpture & Foundry Building -- along with  a student art show and sale, Pueblo Dancing in the Dance Circle, an Archery Demonstration, and a portfolio review with scholarships being award to a select number of qualified students.

The October IAIA Artist-in-Residence artists, Edwin Neel (Kwakwaka'wakw), Tom Jones (Ho-Chunk), and Cougar Vigil (Jicarilla Apache Nation), will also be opening their studios to the public. 
   
Honey Harris from The Big Show will be broadcasting live on KBAC 98.1 FM from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Other planed highlights of the day include:

 Tours of the IAIA Campus starting from the entrances to the campus
Screenings of 360º Spherical Films in the Digital Dome
Performing Arts Student Demonstration  in the Performing Arts and Fitness Center
Ribbon Skirt Workshop in the Student Union Building
New Exhibitions in the Balzer Contemporary Edge Gallery in the Academic Building; The JoAnn 
     and Bob Balzer Alumni  Gallery in the PAFC; and the Barbara and Robert Ells Gallery in 
        the  Science and  Technology  Building.
