A Message from the  Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:

Many partnerships within the Lovejoy community benefit our school district. Historically, the real estate community have been strong advocates for our district for many reasons including the fact that many of them have children in our district. I think most people would agree Lovejoy schools draw many new residents to our community. Furthermore, a realtor recently told me that a home within Lovejoy ISD has a value 15%-30% above that same home's value located in another school district. A local realtor, Tom Grisak, recently took the opportunity to share our Lovejoy success within the website he uses to show his Lovejoy listings.  Tom published the following:

Look for changes to Email Express as we will be revamping the format. We will continue to work to include all-important information as well as student recognitions. In addition, I am adding my Twitter account as a source of real time information. Follow me on Twitter: @TedRedBuilding

In addition to important information, I will use Twitter to share information such as:

Lovejoy Students on ESPN

Cameron Pool, a rising 12th grader at Lovejoy High School plays summer select baseball for the Dallas Patriots organization. The summer season is fast paced, with Cameron's team playing in 7 tournaments over a 6 week period.  In one span, they played 21 games in 17 days in 3 different states.  The tournaments are highly competitive, drawing college and professional baseball scouts from all over the country.

In June, Cameron's team played in the "Pathway Baseball" 17u invitational in Omaha, Nebraska. The championship game was played on ESPN3. Cameron was the starting pitcher in that game and they won 3-2.  His team also played in the Perfect Game 17u National Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.  There, the Patriots placed 5th out of 392 teams, and Cameron was named to the All-Tournament team as a pitcher.  The final tournament of the summer was the Perfect Game World Series in Phoenix, Arizona. Cameron's team advanced to the quarterfinals, and he pitched the last game of the summer in 110 degrees.

Aidan Smith, a rising 8th grader at Willow Springs, competed in the Triple Crown Baseball Club Nationals tournament in East Cobb, Georgia this past week. Aidan plays centerfield and shortstop for the 13U Dallas Patriots Sherard team, which earned the national runner up title on Saturday. Highlights of the tournament for Aidan included his grand slam in the quarterfinal game to stay alive and ultimately help send his team to the championship game that was televised on ESPN. This game is available for replay online via ESPN 3.

Aidan Smith is pictured below with his super fan and rising 7th grade sister, Madeline Smith.

Lovejoy Student Secures
USA Judo Win

Last week Alexandria LeFort, a rising junior at Lovejoy High School, won USA Judo's (olympic body) US Open in the Senior Division. Alexandria competed against several black belts in their 20's to 40's. This is significant in that Alexandria is a brown belt and still 15 years of age. This is Alex's first major national tournament win in the Senior Division and an important milestone in her Olympic journey.

Lovejoy Band and Color Guard

The Lovejoy Band and Color Guard have returned for summer band practice, with the beat of percussion, the blast of horns, and serenade of wind instruments becoming a regular morning ritual. By the first day of school, the band will have logged over 100 hours of rehearsal preparing for their half time show and UIL marching band competition. This year's marching show is themed "Silent Night." Welcome back to school Lovejoy Band and Color Guard!

WSMS Welcomes New Choir Director

You are invited to join us for a "Meet and Greet Night" as we introduce the new WSMS choir director, Mrs. Hannah Brewton. The event will be held on Monday, August 6th from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the WSMS cafeteria.

Hannah is coming to Lovejoy from Jefferson Middle School, just outside of Atlanta, Georgia.  She is a graduate of Georgia College and State University where she graduated magna cum laude with her Bachelors of Music in education.

For the past two years, Hannah has been the choir director at Jefferson Middle School in Athens, Georgia and has consistently received superior ratings for her programs' choir performances at competitions throughout Georgia.  In addition to being the choir director, Hannah also taught music theory and appreciation, directed the show choir, and choreographed musical numbers in the school musical.  This experience, along with her positive approach to challenging and supporting students in choral music, makes her a perfect fit to lead our WSMS choir program.

Hannah is well aware of our outstanding reputation for musical excellence and is excited for the opportunity to work with our talented students.  In addition to her role as the head choir director at WSMS, Hannah will also be assisting with the fall musical and will be providing support for the choir program at SCIS.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday, August 6th at 6:00 PM in the WSMS cafeteria as we welcome Hannah to Lovejoy.
