This Week in Westville is your go-to source for news, events, activities and goings-on in the Westville community. Like NPR and other user-supported media, much of our operations rely on the support of our "local listeners" - you, the reader. In order for the Westville Village Renaissance Alliance to continue providing this valuable community service, we ask you to donate or join WVRA as a Village Person today! Beyond the e-news, WVRA is working every day to make Westville a brighter, safer, more vibrant place to be. To learn more about our Main Street program initiatives, from community and cultural activities, economic revitalization, traffic-calming, historic preservation, and other quality of life efforts, click HERE.

THEY'LL GROW ON THEIR OWN
August 17, 2018, The New Haven Indpendent, by Allan Appel- "Shanda Ferrucci grew up on a farm in the South and likes eating fresh produce, preferably grown by her family. She also likes bargain prices on name brands for paper goods and cleaning products.
She's going to have both close by at the new Family Dollar store at 1168 Whalley Ave. near the corner of Dayton Street.
The new Family Dollar, which replaces an old CVS, is marking its grand opening week with a partnership with the local Boys and Girls Club to grow veggies and then sell them at a grand farmers market day in front of the new store later in the year..." Click HERE to comment and read full article.

AZZ WEEK NEW HAVEN 2018 @LYRIC
Jazz Week kicks off on Friday, August 17 with the trumpeter extraordinaire Dr. Eddie Henderson and his Quartet at Lyric Hall in Westville at 8:00pm for two sets.
Jazz trumpeter extraordinaire Dr. Eddie Henderson received his first informal lesson on the trumpet at the age of 9 from Louis Armstrong. As a teenager he studied trumpet at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and performed with the San Francisco Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. In 1957, Eddie met Miles Davis for the first time. Miles, a family friend, admired the strikingly beautiful tone and musicality of Henderson's trumpet playing and encouraged him to pursue a career in music.
As a family friend, Miles has been a major musical influence on Eddie throughout his life. As Henderson puts it, "Miles is so very special to me because when I was in high school he stayed in my parent's house when he came through San Francisco. I was going to the conservatory then studying classical music. I saw him do all these songs live that I recorded on the tribute album." More info HERE
Jazz Week New Haven 2018 will be held from Aug. 17 - 25. See the full schedule HERE.
Tickets
are $25.00.
Doors open at 7:30.
