The Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin County is sponsoring the initiative throughout Palm Beach and Martin County with funding by
the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation

We are looking for local Glades organizations and people interested in hosting a conversation on October 24, 2018. Materials are available to assist you in facilitating your own conversation. The

y.
The mealtime conversations are structured to discuss issues that affect residents and grew out of a pilot program that was held last year.
Every voice matters and this is a wonderful opportunity to talk about what matters. Taking part is simple, whether over a meal or coffee break, hosting is easy.
The Glades Initiative is excited will be hosting a table and encourages other local agencies to host one, as well. Stay tuned for more details.

Alice in Wonderland Auditions with the Missoula Children's Theatre
Come and be a part of the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center's 25th annual production with the Missoula Children's Theatre in ALICE IN WONDERLAND, the very first title the theatre ever presented with Missoula Children's Theatre! Approximately 50 roles are available for local students. All students, grades K-5 - 12th grade, are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Most students rehearse approximately 4½ hours each day, Monday through Thursday. A performance is scheduled for local schools on Friday, September 28 at noon and two performances will be presented for the public on Saturday, September 29 at 11 am and 7 pm.

Free Booster Seat Giveaway in Belle Glade
Is your child in the right car seat? Free booster seats will be provided to the first 65 children who have outgrown their child safety seat. All children must be present to receive a seat, and all seats must be installed in the vehicle. Certified CPS Techs will be there to help. As of January 2015, all children in Florida up to the age of 6 must travel in a child safety seat. This is a community service provided by Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC, Safe Kids PBC, Belle Glade Fire Rescue, and BRIDGES at Belle Glade.

Rehearsals for Final Living Christmas Tree to Begin
From the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center: It's hard to believe that it has been 30 years since the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center and the Glades Campus of Palm Beach State College presented the very first Living Christmas Tree. This year, the beautiful large tree will return for this 30th and final production and many audience favorites from the past 30 years will fill the program in "30 Years of Favorites".
To celebrate this special performance, the Dolly Hand plans to have a Dolly Hand Singers reunion! If you or someone you know have ever sung in the Tree, please join the choir as they start rehearsals! The rehearsals will continue every Monday up until the public performance on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.

Trivia Challenge Supports Local Charities
Palm Beach County is teaming with United Way to support local charities and non-profit organizations. The library system is kicking off the campaign with a Trivia Challenge at the Belle Glade Civic Center.
The library system is challenging you to create a team to compete against librarians to become the Tri-City Trivia Champions. Up to six people can participate on a team - $10 per person.

Scholarship Opportunity for Glades Residents Interested in Becoming Community Health Worker
A training scholarship is available to one eligible Glades resident for training as a Community Health Worker. Unemployed and displaced workers are able to apply for grant to cover tuition through CareerSource.
Requirements include:
- Must have completed the 500-hour work experience requirement
- Currently serves the Glades community in a human services capacity
- Must have an interest in becoming CHW certified

Immigrants May be Denied Green Cards if They Have Received Benefits
From FRAC: "A proposed rule from the Department of Homeland Security would deny 'lawful permanent residency' if immigrants have received certain government benefits, or if the government anticipates they may do so in the future; the benefits include SNAP. 'The whole rule is so short-sighted and mean-spirited because we know these nutrition programs are not only incredible sources of nutrition, they improve health and well-being' that 'help children learn,' said Alexandra Ashbrook, director of special projects at FRAC. 'They help people be productive workers.'"

SFWMD Unveils New Video About Lake Management and its Impact on South Florida
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) unveiled a new video to educate the public about management of Lake Okeechobee. The video, "Who Relies on Lake Okeechobee?", was shown to the public at the SFWMD Governing Board's regular monthly meeting on Thursday. The video explains the role of Lake Okeechobee on the landscapes of South Florida from flood control to water supply and environmental restoration.

New Palm Tran Service Starts September 30, 2018, Glades Routes Changing
From Palm Tran: "As part of Palm Tran's first major service change in 22 years, the Route Performance Maximization (RPM) project is making getting around by Palm Tran a whole lot easier!
