Adult Choir Begins September 5
Come join our wonderful Adult Choir at our first rehearsal on Wednesday, September 5, 7:30-9:30 PM in the Music Room.  In addition to singing for Sunday services, we will be presenting Alice Parker's Melodious Accord with the Witherspoon Chancel Choir and John Rutter's Mass of the Children with our own children and youth choirs at two special evening services this year.  A complete choir schedule is available on the church website, and you are encouraged to reach out to our music director, Noel Werner, with any questions.  In the meantime, join us for Summer Choir on Sundays, August 26 and September 2 - all are welcome!

Children, Youth, and Bell Choirs set to begin mid-September.
Adult Education in August

Adult Ed continues this Sunday, August 19, with Katie Hastings, a PC(USA) Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) selected for a year of service from Nassau Presbyterian Church.  Katie will tell us about her time in Peru working in the Casa Del Buen Trato Hovde shelter for women and girls.  Come see and hear about her emotional journey, what she found to be most valuable about the YAV program, and what she has learned.

Next Sunday, August 26, the Adults Ed class will hear from Carla Tuan.  After completing a final senior year semester in Paris this spring, Carla flew to Malawi and was introduced to the work of Nassau's mission partnership in Africa by Liz Heinsel-Nelson, VIP's Executive Director.  Carla divided her time between teaching mathematics at a local high school, teaching computer classes to hopeful college students, and going to the homes of twenty vulnerable families. "They are incredibly poor, with not enough to eat.  I am hoping to be able to raise money for them when I get back. Malawi is engulfed in poverty, and yet sometimes not just money, but communicating with villages and letting them do the work is the best solution."  On her return, Carla raised over $1,600.00 for one goat per family and other life-giving supplies.

Last chance to donate!
Like Christmas, a new school year brings excitement and lots of new goodies.  The supplies add up. In 2017 the average family spent $179 per student--just too much for many families in our area. We are joining Westminster Presbyterian Church to provide 200 backpacks filled with essentials for local kids.  Choose an item or two to donate from our Back-to-School display on the Great Wall, or contribute an amount to the Back-to-School Fund and we'll do the shopping (checks payable to Nassau Presbyterian Church, noting "Back-to-School" in the memo line) .
  • Writer's Workshop, $15 (provides a 3-ring binder, loose leaf paper, composition books)
  • Pencil Case, $15 (pencil pouch, pens, pencils, highlighters, erasers, crayons, pencil sharpener)
  • Homework Pack, $45 (academic year planner, 1-subject notebook, index cards, glue sticks, portfolios, ruler)
  • Fully-Loaded Backpack, $100 (all above in a backpack)

Supply and monetary donations can be dropped off in the church office through Sunday, August 26.
