Nearly 250 Episcopalians attended the Hispanic Lay Leadership Conference June 15-16 at Camp Allen.The lay leadership conference, in its fourth year, is an invitation only gathering hosted by the diocesan Commission on Hispanic Ministry and is held to raise up and train leaders within the Diocese’s Spanish-speaking congregations. Nine new deacons were ordained Saturday, June 23 at the Church of St. John the Divine, Houston in a solemn and celebratory worship service. Amid prayer, pitch perfect music and laughter, a full church witnessed nine peoples’ call from God reach the culmination of years of study, examination and spiritual deepening. “Episcopalians are outraged and frustrated at the separation of children from their parents on our southern border,” said the Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle, Bishop of Texas. “Breaking up families who are already suffering from poverty and violence—taking children from their mothers and fathers—is indefensible and immoral,” he said. Rosalums is a brand new Camp Allen Alumni community for anyone and everyone who has come in contact with Camp Allen Summer Camp. That’s right, campers, counselors, Sr. Staff, Directors, Arts & Crafts, or designated blobbers, all (ages 22+) are welcome. Education for Ministry training will be held at Camp Allen from 3 p.m. on Friday through 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 20-22, 2018. Cost is $325. If you had to cancel a previous training, please reregister and choose the “pay by check” option. Formation, for designated “formation eligible” must have a current group to qualify. All rising 4th-6th graders are invited to spend the weekend at their Cathedral in downtown Houston. Activities include a campus scavenger hunt, sleeping over in the Treehouse youth space, serving in the community, riding the Metro and worshiping at the 9 a.m. service along with their families Sunday morning. This weekend will introduce our intermediate students to the life-long call of service and worship while learning the value the Church and world place on their unique gifts and talents. In response to Hurricane Harvey, Texas ESC has partnered up with organizations in Galveston County to aid in recovery, rebuilding and reforming community. We believe that there is immense value in learning about what relief, recovery, and coping look like in the wake of natural disaster. Revival Worship, July 7, 5:30 - 7 p.m.
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, who delivered the sermon at the Royal Wedding, will preach at this revival at the Palmer Events Center, across Lady Bird Lake from the Convention Center in downtown Austin. With extraordinary music, this liturgical highlight of the General Convention will raise our hearts and spirits as we celebrate the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement.
