In memory of Martin Luther King


Concerts this Friday and Sunday feature the premieres of 5 new works honoring Martin Luther King (details below). The concert includes commentary and readings by poet Regie Gibson, and marvelous singing by Allie Whitfield.

In His Own Words: Concert in Memory of Martin Luther King

Allie and Elizabeth Whitfield have commissioned five local composers to write new works, setting the words of Martin Luther King. Performance poet Regie O'Hare Gibson will introduce each piece, as if we were at a service that MLK might have presided over. Come hear the premiere of my Sweet Princesses (Birmingham 1963) for soprano and string trio, with audience responsive verses.
