Karen caught Spring in Shanghai, China last week  (we think it's coming to Toronto any minute  after some final snowfalls!) and we at Kaeja are so ready to get back out into the sunshine!

There are plenty of ways to get involved!
PORCH VIEW DANCES VOLUNTEERS

We are currently seeking our 
Street Squad  and very fun  Bike Squad
volunteers for Porch View Dances 2018.

Street Squad:  Street Squad members are responsible for guiding the audience along the PVD route through Seaton Village, as well as PVD ambassadors answering general questions from audience and passersby, handing out programs, c ollecting Pay-What-You-Want  donations and inviting the audience to participate in the Flock Lan ding finale.

Bike Squad:  On a bike, you'll be assisting Toronto Police Bike officers with guiding traffic around the performance, suggesting alternative routes for vehicles, biking ahead of the audience to ensure a clear walking route, answering inquiries from members of the audience as well as those driving by, and distributing flyers to curious passersby. Must have your own bike.

All volunteers receive: 
  • "Dance With Me" T-shirt
  • A chance to witness rehearsals and meet our renowned choreographers
  • A final pizza party with the whole cast at the Kaeja's!

Community Hosts:   are businesses who are responsible for recruiting volunteers for one performance.  They  are responsible for guiding the audience along the PVD route through Seaton Village, as well as PVD ambassadors answering general questions from audience and passersby, handing out programs, collecting Pay-What-You-Want  donations and inviting the audience to participate in the Flock Lan ding finale.

All Community Hosts receive:
  • Logo exposure in our program and on our website
  • Tons of promotion on our social media accounts
  • A shoutout in the opening speech at each performance

We're accepting applications for volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors! 

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of  "one of Toronto's most innovative and community-engaged arts organizations"   (Adam Vaughan, City Councillor, now MP Spadina-Fort York)  while contributing to our dance company's longevity, success and  growth!  Now in our third decade, we  can't do it without you! Board members meet quarterly in a fun, relaxed  setting for  plans and governance of Kaeja d'Dance.

DANCE WITH KAREN IN REHEARSAL

There will be another opportunity for the community to join Karen Kaeja in rehearsal in June 2018 as she conducts research for a new piece. Downtown Toronto. June 2018. More details to come.

LOOKING FOR COUPLES FOR CRAVE

Quadruple Dora nominated (winning one),  CRAVE will be presented  by  this year's  Guelph Dance Festival CRAVE is a duet that is preceded by an audience participatory "prelude" consisting of coup les d ancing on stage while the audience is entering. Guelph Dance is looking for volunteers to participate in this special pre-show experience.

You must be available on June 2, 2018 for:
  1. Rehearsal - 2:00pm-3:00pm
  2. Dress Rehearsal - 4:00pm-5:30pm
  3. Performance - 7pm prep and prelude before 8pm duet performance (option to watch the show after your prelude)

2018 ALIAS INTERNATIONAL SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE
AUGUST 20 - SEPTEMBER 1, 2018
The Alias Dance Project International Summer Intensive is dedicated to providing progressive opportunities for exceptional dance training, research, development, and a platform for presentation. Our vision is to stimulate the development of a new dance culture in Canada. The workshop leaders and class disciplines are carefully curated to offer an affluent program of alternative dance training methods, providing structures for learning that are inclusive of dance artists from all disciplines. They are selecte d not only for their extraordinary aptitude as artists and teachers, but for their artistic practices being aligned with Alias' mandate. They are each accomplished artists and educators; they have a unique approach to movement that breaks convention; they are open to exploration and collaboration; they are sensitive and humble; they strive to encourage artistic growth; and they are unexpected.
