  VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL...FOR GROWN UPS!
Remember how much fun you had at Vacation Bible School when you were young? We have lots of good memories from those times. So let's have VBS for adults!

We will meet at Barb Jackson's house on the corner of Minor and Maple Streets (166 Maple) on Tuesday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m. (Extra parking is available at the library.) Please bring your memories and a potluck dish. Kool Aid and adult beverages will be furnished! Our theme this year is the same as our youth program: "Who Is My Neighbor?" Yes, we will also make a fun, simple craft. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the hallway.  Questions? Contact Linea Warmke (740-707-1822).

ANNUAL CHURCH PICNIC
The annual LCGS picnic will be held on Sunday, June 23, at Lake Atagahi Park in Connestee Falls. Worship services that day will take place at Good Shepherd as usual, at 8:00 and 10:30 a.m. The picnic will immediately follow the 10:30 service.

Pulled pork (along with buns and sauce), chicken, lemonade, water, plates, cups, napkins and eating utensils will all be provided. Congregation members are asked to provide BBQ-type family-sized (8 - 10 servings) side dishes/salads and desserts. Also, please feel free to bring other beverages of your choice.

Besides bringing a dish to share with your church friends and family, please also bring along a can or box of non-perishable food to share with your friends and neighbors at Sharing House. Toilet paper and paper towels are especially needed right now. A full list of specific requests from Sharing House is posted on the bulletin board. If it is more convenient or for those not attending the picnic, items can be dropped off in the bins in the commons as well.  Cash or checks will also be welcome. Thank you!

Directions to the park (from the church) are available here. Hard copies of the directions will be available  following both services on Sunday for those who have signed up to attend. If you are using a navigation system, the address of the park is 687 Utsonati Lane, Brevard.

Questions may be directed to Leigh Ann Stinson, De Carlson or Donna Aiken-Colflesh.
TRUSTEESHIP MEETING
On this past Tuesday afternoon, we had a meeting to learn more about the concept of trusteeship that Pastor Graf mentioned in his sermon on Pentecost. We had a good group, but it was a rainy, messy day. If you were unable to attend and would like to know more about how this program can enrich our lives at LCGS, speak to me or give me a call at 702-6746.

NOISY OFFERING
Our next "noisy offering" will take place on  Sunday, June 30, when the children will collect your pocket change in metal buckets (hence, the noise). The offering will benefit the new Children's Advocacy Center of Transylvania County in Brevard, which serves children who have been impacted by child abuse.  The Center is a program of Southmountain Children and Family Services, which has been serving Western North Carolina since the founding of their first center in Morganton in 1998.

Start rounding up your change now! If your change jar happens to be low, bills and checks will be gratefully accepted by the children. Thank you!
BAKED GOODS FOR THE HAVEN
A group from Good Shepherd will be preparing food for The Haven for the weekend of July 5-7. They would appreciate donations from the congregation of baked goods, such as breakfast muffins, quick breads, coffee cakes, desserts, etc. Just label them "for The Haven" and drop them off in the kitchen by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 5. Any questions, contact Barb Jackson (828-553-4771 or [email protected]).

BISHOP SMITH ADDRESSES ASSEMBLY
Here is another story focused on the recent Synod Assembly.
Bishop Tim Smith's address to the assembly began with a video thanking the NC Synod for their giving and lifting up the many ways the synod raises up so many fine candidates for ministry: LRU, LTSS, Agape+Kure Beach Ministries, NovusWay Ministries, campus ministry programs, and LYO.

Then, he stood to address the assembly.
THE GOOD THINGS GOD IS DOING
Here is a story from the NC Synod about the recent Synod Assembly.
Planning an assembly is challenging. What ministry areas need to be highlighted? What do we hope congregations will learn that can be energizing for their own ministries? The recent 2019 NC Synod Assembly was no different. While the assembly theme, Vital Congregations, was lifted up in a variety of ways, folks also learned much more about shared ministries and the good things God is doing in this synod. Here are comments from several assembly attendees who shared their own assembly take-aways.
