Happy autumn! When I turn in a Chloe Ellefson mystery to publisher Midnight Ink each winter, the October release date always seems so far away. But now launch season is here!

This season I'm counting my blessings with extra care.  Late last spring I came down with a bad virus that confounded the doctors for weeks.

I'm fine now, but I got no writing done for over two months. And for several weeks I didn't even feel well enough to read.

That time reminded me that reading and writing are essential to my well-being.

I'm grateful to be back at work, and have recently enjoyed reading several books for the pure pleasure of disappearing into a good story.   I hope the new Chloe mystery provides you with the same pleasurable escape!

  Lacemaker's Secret

After over a year spent researching, writing, and editing . . . the ninth Chloe will soon be released into the hands (and ebooks) of all my wonderful Chloe and Roelke fans.

Here's the first published review of The Lacemaker's Secret.

"In this heartfelt tale of labor and love,
Ernst produces one of her most winning combinations of historical evocation
and clever mystery." --Kirkus Reviews

And here, based on pre-orders, is what readers are doing.

Now you can discover what the story is about (no spoilers) on my website's  Lacemaker's Secret  page.

The Edgerton Sterling North Book & Film Festival celebrates storytelling, poetry, and music. I was beyond honored when told...

I learned to love history as a child by reading historical fiction. It has been a privilege to share my passion with children.

In related news, my most recent American Girl book is about Felicity, the Revolutionary War character created by Valerie Tripp. The Felicity 3 Book Boxed Set, containing my book and two of Valerie's, just reached a big milestone.

Although I've been busy with adult projects, I still love writing for kids, and hope to do more books for them.

  Happy Autumn

I'd love to see you at one of my fall events! Most of all, in this golden season, I wish you peaceful moments with a good book in hand.

Happy Reading,
