Hello GRES!
March is social work month and next week is school social work week. Ms. Veronica Lickfelt is our school social worker for the second year. She is around the building in classrooms, at arrival and dismissal, in the hallways, and on the playground. Ask your student if he/she knows of her. Lots of students say she is the feelings teacher or the person who asks about emotions. She is always looking to help students manage emotions and behaviors as well as encourage independent problem solvers. Thank you Mrs. Lickfelt for always being ready and available to help!
Parents, we need your help! Many students are entering class after the bell due to the amount of time morning drop-off is taking. Students need to get out of the car after passing Door 23, where the yellow curb starts. It is starting to warm up, so we'd appreciate you helping our students get the most out of their educational day. In terms of parent pick-up, cars must remain in line to pick up their child. Only those who have made previous arrangements due to extenuating circumstances should be parking in the lot.
We are still looking for someone to supervise lunch and/or recess from 1:30-3:30 on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This opportunity could come with additional hours on given days as necessary. Please contact the office (630-553-5513) if you are interested, or know anyone who is.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to continually enhance our services to our families.
Sincerely,
Michele Breyne
GRES Principal

Staff Shout Outs!!!
"We were apprehensive about sending our son back to school full-time in the fall. But since the first day of school, he has come home every day with a smile on his face. A big part of that is Mrs. Hanson! Mrs. Hanson has managed to keep our son engaged, excited, challenged, and safe during these tough times. We appreciate the wonderful communication Mrs. Hanson has with her students and their families. We have even gotten emails out of the blue just to say how proud she is of our son and what a great job he is doing in class. We are so thankful that our son has Mrs. Hanson to guide him on this journey."
"My son has always struggled with reading/spelling/writing. With the support of Mrs. Garretson this year, I have seen him grow leaps and bounds. She is so good at communicating with me and sharing resources that would be helpful for him. She goes above and beyond sharing ideas and making sure he receives all the resources avail to him. She is one of his biggest cheerleaders which truly says so much about her passion for teaching. Mrs. Garretson is a true testament to the outstanding teachers we have at GRES! She definitely deserves a shout out!"

If you'd like to order a book look for the order form that came home this week, and we hope you jump in to our sock puppet fun, too! Create your own one-of-a-kind sock puppet, and then post a photo or video with it to our Padlet at http://bit.ly/3dETCeV by March 15th, and you will be entered into a raffle to win a pre-order of Shelley Johannes's new picture book, More Than Sunny, releasing in May! (Make sure to include your name and school in the post!) If you have any questions about the above, please email Mary Hamer - [email protected].
HAPPY CREATING, and we are so very excited to "meet" Shelley later this month!

SEAKers
Grande Reserve has joined the SEAKers in completing weekly kindness challenges! SEAKers, which stands for Students Engaging in Acts of Kindness, was created by Mandy Kelly, a 6th grade teacher in California. The goal of the SEAKers is to “make the world a better place through small acts of kindness”. Each week students will be challenged with small acts such as holding the door open, doing an extra chore at home, or giving someone a genuine compliment. Each week we will shoutout the class with the most SEAKers!
Families are welcome to join in at home too! Check out the SEAKers website and facebook page below!

Please send us any photos of your child(ren) doing Acts of Kindness; we'd love to feature them! :)

Students or parents can nominate a teacher to be included in our "Teacher Feature" section of the weekly newsletter by sharing a reason(s) why they make school a wonderful place to be! Your input can be shared by completing the digital submission form or you can print our paper copy and have your child turn it into the office at school. Thank you for your support, we are looking forward to sharing your responses!
