Lunchtime Clubs Start This Week
Monday, September 24, lunchtime. Our Hillview lunchtime clubs will officially begin. We have a number of lunch clubs each day of the week. More information to follow. E
ncourage your child to get involved!
After-School Math Clinic at Hillview
Help and support in math are available at Hillview Math Clinic! Several Hillview math teachers run the Math Clinic each week, Monday through Thursday in the library conference room. Students can drop in with quick questions, sit down to start and finish homework, or get help with material learned in class. It is individual math help for individual math students. Come one day or all days. Come for part of the time or the whole time. Math Clinic is here to help!

*After-school bus is available for students who need transportation
iPad Issues
We have various ways for students to get help with iPad issues, such as not being able to access the internet at home, or not being able to log in to particular apps. For internet issues, students can see Mr. Benelli in the library during brunch, lunch, and Qu3ST. For app issues, students can see Mr. Doroquez in room G-2 during 7th period. Photo Retakes
Monday, October 1, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., iClick will do photo retakes. If you would like a photo retake for your student, schedule an appointment with iClick for that day. Retakes on an appointment basis only. Find your email from iClickSmiles Peninsula and schedule retakes via the email. Pictures are still at a discounted rate on their site until September 27, so snag the early-bird prices while you can.

Opportunity to Serve on a Unique Advisory Committee
Friday, October 5 is the deadline to communicate your interest.
Superintendent Erik Burmeister is seeking parent and community members for a Superintendent Advisory Committee. The Committee, known as the Full Funding Advisory Committee, will meet four to six times this fall and winter to provide input in the development of the definition of "fully funded" for MPCSD. As a community-funded district that relies on parcel taxes and foundation-giving for one quarter of the budget, it is essential that we are able to define "fully funded" as it pertains to our children's education. This static benchmark will help us to achieve our targets, now and in the long term. Hillview Library
Thank You for Donations!
The Hillview Library and students want to thank you for donating gently used books at Back to School Night. We collected nearly 100 books! We are still collecting books if you and your students are cleaning out your bookshelves. Send any gently used books to the library. They will be distributed to the classroom to update the classroom libraries.
Looking for a Great Book
You or your students can find books to read on our library website, we have lists! Take a look here. And Ms. Piombo and Mrs. Mathenia LOVE helping kids find books, so we hope to see them in the library if they need any recommendations.
Mature Content and Language
The Hillview Library offers books with more mature content and language in the Teen section of the library.
- 8th-grade students automatically have access to Teen section unless parents opt out their students. You can opt out with the form here.
- 7th-grade students can access the Teen section with the permission slip here.
- 6th-grade students have access to Teen books title by title with parent signature on the form here.

Hillview Lunchtime Clubs
Quiz Bowl Club
Tuesdays at lunchtime in the Music Room. Does your student like the TV show Jeopardy? Do they wish they could buzz in to answer? Now they can. Come to the Quiz Bowl club. Our questions are easier than those on the TV show, and they cover a wide variety of topics. Have students bring their lunch and join us. Questions? Email Ms. Kayton here.

Next Meeting! Pets in Need
Thursday, September 27, lunchtime, PAC. Pets in Need kicks off our focus on animal welfare with a visit! Students will meet some furry four-legged friends and learn about volunteer opportunities at a local animal shelter. If your child has severe pet allergies, it may be advisable for them not to attend this meeting. (Have this conversation with your child if warranted.)
This student-driven, parent-run lunchtime club meets twice a month in the PAC. Our goal is to give back to the community and have fun doing it! We want Hillview students to actively engage in service for others. Thanks for encouraging your kids to join us!

14th Annual Disaster Preparedness Day

The event will provide vital information on preparing, surviving, and recovering from emergencies/disasters as well as great networking and hands-on learning opportunities. Summer 2019 Italy Trip - Informational Meeting
Tuesday, September 25 at 6:30 p.m. in room C-9 at Hillview. Social Studies teachers Marianne Santo and Mike Rogers will be taking students and parents on an educational tour to Italy during summer break June 2019. , Saturday, September 29, 9:00 a.m., M-A Campus. We are excited to invite all students, staff, families, and friends to our Third Annual Community Color Run. The Color Run serves as a fundraiser for the Menlo-Atherton Leadership Program. This is a healthy, fun way to start off a Saturday morning with our awesome community! Register on Race Day at 8:30 a.m. at the back of M-A Ayers Gym. Tickets $15.
Menlo-Atherton Volleyball Community Clinic

SafeSpace - New Conversation
A
nonprofit located in downtown Menlo Park that is dedicated to revolutionizing mental health care for young people and committed to improving the lives of teens struggling with mental health issues through compassionate care and community support. We are pleased to have several Hillview students serving on our Middle School Youth Advisory Board this year. SafeSpace tackles topics such as how to cope with challenges, work through feelings of loneliness and balance the multitude of pressures teens face today. Join the Girl BAND Study (Girl Behavior and NeuroDevelopment!)
Stanford University researchers are looking for girls ages 6-14 with developmental disabilities or typical development to participate in a study exploring brain development in relation to behavior, cognition, and mood in girls. Participation involves a comprehensive cognitive and behavioral evaluation and MRI/NIRS scans (safe, non-invasive, no x-ray/radiation.) Potential benefits include evaluation reports, annual follow-up, results of the study, and a $100 honorarium for participation. For more information email here or call 650-724-2951.
