Custom Training Classes
SCS offers custom on-site training programs for businesses and facilities. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Refrigeration system reviews
  • Refrigeration equipment and facility-specific standard operating procedures
  • Refrigeration components
Training is provided using materials from RETA, IIAR, manufacturers, and/or field experience, as well as facility-specific standard operating procedures.

Our Instructors:

Our instructors have years of experience and strive to make learning enjoyable and engaging. Our training programs are overseen by a RETA Authorized Instructor (RAI) with over 40 years of electrical, refrigeration, and maintenance experience as a technician/manager. All of our instructors have completed Train-the-Trainer courses and have several years of teaching experience. We bring to the table a combined total of over 100 years of refrigeration experience including Maintenance Manager, Startup Technician, Service Technician, Plant Engineering, Instructor, etc.
Gene Dumas
CARO/CIRO/CRST/RAI
Mr. Dumas is SCS Tracer’s lead refrigeration operator instructor. As a Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association (RETA) Authorized Instructor (RAI), Mr. Dumas is responsible for content quality and presentation for our refrigeration-related training courses. Mr. Dumas was a prior Maintenance Engineer for 18 years.  He joined SCS in 2015.  His primary responsibility is to assist facilities that use anhydrous ammonia in addressing EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP) and OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements. Those duties include: Facilitating Process Hazard Analysis studies; Conducting Process Safety Management audits; and Completing Risk Management studies. Mr. Dumas’ previous experience also brings first-hand experience to his Mechanical Integrity Inspections and Audits.
Eric Girven
CIRO/CRST/RAI
Mr. Girven has been in the industrial refrigeration field for 26 years having spent most of his career at a large food processing facility in Wyalusing, Pennsylvania. Eric’s experience includes the following; Operator/Service technician; PSM Coordinator; Supervisor; Superintendent; Project Manager and most recently serving as a Senior Project Manager/Instructor. Eric has an extensive background in OSHA’s Process Safety Management and the EPA’s Risk Management having developed and implemented these programs for multiple customers nationwide specifically geared towards the ammonia refrigeration industry. Eric has been a long standing member of both the IIAR and RETA organizations. Eric previously served as the Vice-Chair of the Education Committee for the IIAR.
Tyler Ramos
RAI
Mr. Ramos has 26 years of refrigeration experience including 18 years of ammonia experience and has been involved with PSM/RMP from implementation to law. He has been an Instructor for Operators, Technicians, PSM Coordinators and Managers for 8 years. 
Mark Caryle
Mr. Carlyle has 40-years of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning, & refrigeration experience, including 25 some years of ammonia experience, as an installer, service mechanic, instructor, project manager, and sales engineer. Within the last 14-years, he has been very involved with the RETA & IIAR conventions, RETA & ASTI safety days across the country, and only the first 5-years or so with IARW.
Bill Lape
CIRO/CARO/CRST/PSMP
Mr. Lape's experience includes all aspects of preparing a PSM program. This includes participating in Process Hazard Analyses as the team leader and recorder, and preparing qualitative risk analyses. Mr. Lape is also experienced in developing Process Safety Information packets, drafting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, writing Standard Operating Procedures, as well as developing and conducting initial and refresher training for Ammonia Refrigeration Operators. Mr. Lape has also been involved in auditing PSM programs, performing over 20 audits since 2015, helping to ensure that facilities are keeping their employees and the public safe, while maintaining compliance with regulations.
