Month of Musical Masterworks
Week 3
This Sunday we continue our month-long series of great instrumental works presented in worship, interspersed throughout the 10 o'clock service. This week violist Sheila Browne brings us the viola sonata by 19th-century Belgian composer Henri Vieuxtemps. Accompanied by Paul Fleckenstein at the piano, the three movements of the sonata will enhance our worship service as Prelude, Offertory and Postlude. In addition to a busy international performing career, Ms. Browne currently serves as professor of viola at the University of Delaware. Click here to see the complete line-up for the month.
Blessing of the Backpacks
Sunday, August 19, 8:15 and
10:00 a.m. worship
Join us for one of our services this Sunday! Dr. Jones will bless the backpacks of our children and youth, helping launch them into the upcoming school year with God's abundant blessings and the love and support of our church family. Children of all ages (not just young ones) are encouraged to bring their backpack to worship and come forward during the Time With Children to have their backpack blessed. Our goal this year is to distribute 600 backpacks filled with school supplies to students at UrbanPromise; EastSide Charter, Highlands, and Shortlidge elementary schools; and Family Promise. We will present the backpacks to representatives of these organizations/schools, whom you'll have an opportunity to meet informally during the Ice Cream Social after worship. Thank you to everyone who supported this project.

Coming Up
Let's Talk About It - A Periodic Series
Sunday, August 26, 9:00 a.m. in the Ruth Christie Room
Facilitated by Sue Linderman
White people are unaccustomed to talking about race and its implications in their lives. Yet, at some level, everyone recognizes that racism and prejudice have a profound impact on our communities and our country. We need opportunities to experience the challenges and benefits that come from bringing racial issues into the light of day. All are welcome to join us on August 26 as we continue the journey of exploring our beliefs about race, with openness to differing opinions and respect for one another.
Brewing Questions: Different Night, Same Great Conversation!
Monday, August 27, 7:00 p.m. at the Brew Haha! in Greenville
Do you want to meet other young adults in our community and discuss questions of faith? Join us for Brewing Questions - a monthly gathering for adults in their 20s and 30s. We will resume Brewing Questions on Monday, August 27, at 7:00 p.m. at the Brew Haha! in Greenville (3838 Kennett Pike, Greenville, DE 19807). Please note: We will usually gather on the first Monday of the month; after August 27, the next Brewing Questions will be October 1. For more information, or to get on the Brewing Questions email list, please contact the Rev. Sudie Niesen Thompson at [email protected].

News to Note
Can You Help?
New Life Furnishings, a Westminster program that provides household goods to people moving from homelessness to independent living, is in need of gently used sheet sets (full and/or twin), bath towels, washcloths, curtains, and dish sets. If you can donate any of these items, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your support.
Vehicle Needed for Family
URGENT NEED! A family currently in the Family Promise (FP) network has secured housing for her family. She has worked hard to maintain employment and now desperately needs a vehicle to keep her job. Riding the bus is not an option. FP staff has put out a request for: 1) a vehicle to donate to FP for this family, even if it needs some repairs, which could be arranged with a FP partner mechanic; or (2) a vehicle at an affordable price so that staff could arrange financing with this family. If you have a vehicle or a lead on a vehicle that could be donated or sold to Family Promise, please call the FP office (302-998-2222) or email Family Promise of Northern New Castle County at [email protected].
Church Office Hours and Closings
During the month of August, the church office is open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and closed on Fridays.
