NMU Leadership Visits Area

On August 8,  NMU President Fritz Erickson and Board of Trustee Lisa Fittante hosted a Community Luncheon to update business and community leaders in our area on the latest strategic initiatives at NMU.

President Erickson was excited to share that NMU has a new residence hall complex that was funded through a public/private partnership and is now moving forward with a complete renovation of the University Center facility.

Erickson also noted their success in introducing innovative new programs like the cold-weather forensic research station, the only such facility in the world and the new Medicinal Plant Chemistry Bachelor's degree program.

He also highlighted NMU's progress on the Educational Access Network - a high-speed educational LTE network across the Upper Peninsula providing access to educational content in many rural, under served areas.

Thank you to Lisa Fittante for hosting the visit!
Marketing and Branding Task Force Spotlight

The primary focus of the Alliance's Marketing and Branding Task Force is to define and communicate the benefits of living, working and investing in Dickinson County.

Recently, the task force has been working toward this goal in several different ways. One way they are planning on spreading the message is through social media using Brand Ambassadors. Brand Ambassadors will be individuals representing different lifestyles and showcasing their own way of life and career path. Through social media, the Ambassadors will highlight all the great things to do in Dickinson County, while spreading positive messages about why living in the Dickinson area is so rewarding.

The task force is also inviting members of the community to share their favorite images and videos of the Dickinson area. The group is excited to promote the area's activities and assets and are seeking good quality images and videos to help tell our story. Submissions can be uploaded here.

Defining the mission, vision and elevator pitch for the DAEDA is another project the group has been focused on. With the help of Paula Craven, Iron Mountain DDA Director, who has conducted similar exercises for many other entities, a draft mission, vision and elevator speech have been developed and shared with the Board of Directors. Once finalized, these statements will help to ensure that all those involved in the activities of the DAEDA are consistent in sharing our message.

The group, along with the Talent and Education Task Force, also participated in FlivverFest. Together they worked to collect contact information from 80 attendees, along with their thoughts on what they would like to see happening in the Dickinson Area. This information will be beneficial to the group as they move forward in accomplishing their goals.

A BIG thank you to Task Force Chair, Evan Rice for his efforts in leading this group and to all participants for sharing their time and expertise with us!
