Imagine that the message below is an "intel report" on planet Earth--written by an alien mission commander on his way back home to Atrium, another "Goldilocks" planet in the Milky Way galaxy.
Although the residents of Atrium may be the most-advanced species in the universe, it seems that they have run out of enough resources to sustain them for much longer. Now, finally understanding what went wrong, they've concluded that planet Earth might provide them with a perfect opportunity to start over.
As he and his team rocketed back to Atrium this week, the mission commander e-mailed this advance report back home. Given what they had discovered on Earth, he was almost giddy as he drafted the message that he would soon present to his leaders in person.

Dear Congress of Atrium,
I am hesitant to reveal the extent of my optimism after our visit to planet Earth.
First of all, this place is about as close to perfect as we could ever imagine. It has water, trees, beautiful vistas, a mild climate and rich soil capable of feeding all of Atrium's citizens for millions of years.
Secondly, unlike our wise leadership on Atrium, the human residents on Earth have no centralized leadership whatsoever, and the leaders that they do have are incredibly weak and dysfunctional. This is good news for us.
Foolishly, they have let their population grow to more than three times the number of people that their planet can support--all while ignoring a deadly climate change crisis similar to what our forefathers on Atrium dealt with 3,000 years ago.
Now, on the verge of their collapsing civilization, the home planet of the humans can be an ideal new home for us. We can simply move our entire population to planet Earth over the next few decades.
And, amazingly, we won't even need to remove the billions of humans living there now--as they're doing an excellent job of driving themselves to extinction without any help from us. Y
ou see, they have failed to connect the dots regarding how their lifestyles have been steadily "killing their mother" -- the planet's ecosystem -- that provides life for all species.
On that topic, a wise human warned all Earthlings about this exact problem in the planet's most-watched film of all time, Avatar, almost ten years ago. But the Earthlings in power did not heed the message.

Even as we make plans to take over their planet in the next few years, these humans seem to be completely oblivious as to what their future holds--while recklessly wasting their time and energy entertaining themselves.
Case in point. Just last week, most of the leaders of Earth's most powerful nation spent four days intently watching a few dozen men chasing little white balls around a place they call a "golf course" near the center of a prosperous country known as the United States of America.

Not only were there tens of thousands of people out in the scorching sun watching this strange activity in person--tens of millions of Earthlings all over the planet were also following it closely on non-stop television. Incredible.
Sadly for them, while they were practically glued to this peculiar game, their planet was continuing to slip rapidly into the most deadly era of climate change. Ironically, over 95% of Earth's scientists have been sounding the alarm on this deadly climate phenomenon for thirty years--but the planet's feckless leaders have ignored them as well.
Too bad for those lovable Earthlings--as their hubris and greed prevented them from taking the simple steps necessary to save themselves. But in the final analysis, their loss is our gain.
Upon my arrival home in a few weeks, I look forward to working on the most important project in the history of our species--as we the people of Atrium plan the emigration to our marvelous new home on planet Earth.
