TAD Talks
TEXAS LEGISLATURE ONLINE
AND MORE RESOURCES
For those that don't know, for the last several weeks I've been hosting State Representative Stephanie Klick for meetings to discuss election reform (sign up HERE if you'd like to join us). Last Friday Representative Klick guided us through the functionality of the Texas Legislature Online (TLO). She demonstrated how to setup alerts on bills and how to track a bill's progress. She also showed us how the TLO can be used to watch live committee hearings, floor actions and to see how representatives vote on a bill. With all this functionality, the TLO should definitely be saved as one of your favorites!
Another hot topic these days is redistricting. Representative Todd Hunter was recently named chair of the House Committee on Redistricting. Redistricting hearings are happening NOW! These hearings provide an opportunity for citizens to present testimony concerning local preferences, communities of interest, local voting patterns, and other issues that the legislature may consider when redrawing district lines. Talking points and information on how to provide public testimony can be found HERE.
Share Your Efforts!
There is great energy across the nation to involve more people in the electoral process. I would love to hear what creative ways YOU are working in your communities, and I will share your stories right here in hopes that another reader might be inspired!
For example, this week I am sharing Barbara's story. Barbara has reserved a booth at her local town's Market Days where she will be registering voters, recruiting volunteers, selling signs and flags and just taking the opportunity to educate the public. She is also holding Deputy Voter Registrar certification classes, which have already filled!
Email me your ideas at tad@toniannedashiell.com. I cannot wait to hear what you have been up to!
Mark Your Calendar!
I am excited to announce this Friday's weekly meeting will feature Representative Briscoe Cain, who was recently named chair of the House Elections Committee. Remembering Congressman Ron Wright

Yesterday we all learned of the passing of Congressman Ron Wright. Ron was a longtime public servant in Tarrant County. He served on the Arlington City Council, worked for Congressman Joe Barton and was Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector before being elected to Congress. Congressman Wright had been battling lung cancer for over a year before contracting COVID-19 a couple of weeks ago.

More importantly Ron was a loving husband, father and grand-father. He was a principled fighter and a passionate advocate for North Texas and our entire State. Please keep his family in your prayers, especially his wife Susan, a member of our State Republican Executive Committee, who is continuing her recovery from COVID as she mourns.
Trump impeachment – here's what this charade tells us about Democrat priorities

Trump impeachment – here's what this charade tells us about Democrat priorities
Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel
February 8, 2021

"After spending four years telling Americans about the need to move on from President Trump, it turns out Democrats are the ones who can’t let him go.

"With nothing else to offer, this week Senate Democrats are resorting back to running the impeachment playbook for the second time in as many years, this time of a president no longer in office.

"Make no mistake – this Senate impeachment trial is nothing more than a political stunt that flies in the face of our Constitution, common sense and any notion of furthering the common good.

"Americans can be forgiven for having impeachment fatigue and if they feel like we have been here before.
 ...

"Now with millions of Americans still out of work, those same Democrats have decided the best use of their time and taxpayer money is to try to remove President Trump from a job he no longer holds.
...

"There is no doubt impeachment will bring Democrats together on the one issue that unites them most – their hatred of President Trump. Democrats are addicted to Donald Trump, and as they struggle to deal with the symptoms of withdrawal, having another bite at the impeachment apple was simply too good an opportunity to pass up.

"At a time when we desperately need unity, impeachment is a partisan, politically motivated overreach that will only divide our country further.
...

"If they weren’t wasting time on impeachment, this week Democrats could be reaching across the aisle and working with Republicans to solve the real problems facing our country.

"They could be working with Republicans on solutions that get vaccines distributed, Americans back to work, our kids back in the classrooms, and targeted relief to those who need it most.

"Instead, they are opting for a score-settling exercise they know is destined to fail.
...

"Our nation’s charter spells out in no uncertain terms that impeachment trials apply to 'the President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States,' not former presidents. Our Founders designed the impeachment process as a remedy to remove officeholders from public office, not as a tool to punish private citizens.
...

"With all the real challenges our country faces, it is unfortunate Senate Democrats are choosing to play politics by moving ahead with this impeachment trial at this time, in this way.

"Their partisan pursuit of impeachment runs the risk of jeopardizing future opportunities for bipartisan cooperation and widening our divisions to the point of no return.
...

"At another difficult time in our nation’s history, Lincoln said 'a house divided against itself cannot stand.'

"Biden should heed Lincoln’s words by urging his fellow Democrats in the Senate to abandon their political game of impeachment so the People’s House can get back to doing the people’s business and we can start the work of bringing our badly divided country together."

RNC Talking Points
Joe Biden’s War on American Energy

  • President Joe Biden’s war on American energy has already destroyed thousands of American jobs.
  • By halting the Keystone Pipeline, Joe Biden has crushed over 11,000 American jobs and 8,000 union jobs.
  • The decision has been slammed by United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipefitters and energy workers across the country.
  • Stopping the Keystone Pipeline has already hurt small businesses and American workers.
  • President Biden directed federal agencies to determine how expansive a ban on new oil and gas leasing on federal land should be. The ban would kill nearly a million jobs by 2022.
  • We have rejoined the disastrous Paris Climate Agreement will cost the U.S. economy millions of jobs over the next decade.
  • Biden’s EPA pick Michael Regan is the perfect person to implement the radical climate agenda and that will cripple the economy and kill millions of jobs.
  • During the confirmation hearing yesterday, Regan admitted Biden has already cost people their livelihoods, there is no “silver bullet” to get those people back to work.
  • Regan is in lockstep with Biden in his war on fossil fuels. He has long been an advocate for eliminating fossil fuels - last year he celebrated North Carolina “Closing the final chapters on #FossilFuel investments.”
  • Biden’s team has shown little concern for the hardworking Americans who will be out of work because of his radical energy agenda.
  • Republicans will keep fighting for American workers and energy independence while Biden kills American energy jobs.

Opening Schools

  • The Biden administration is shamefully refusing to stand up to Democrat special interest groups and protect the interests of America’s children.
  • Chicago has invested over $100 million in the necessary precautions to allow their schools to safely reopen.
  • Biden should be leading on this issue, but instead, he refuses to call on the Chicago Teachers Union to return to school.
  • The science is clear: there is no scientific, economic, or public health rationale for keeping schools closed when they have invested in the proper safety precautions.
  • The Biden administration needs to do what is right: listen to the science and call on schools to reopen and put our students first.

Impeachment

  • This impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump is nothing more than a politically motivated overreach that will only divide our country further.
  • The process has already been tainted by House Democrats who rushed impeachment through the House (with zero due process for President Trump), only for Nancy Pelosi to delay sending the articles to the Senate for 28 days.
  • Even the New York Times Editorial Board pointed out that Pelosi did not win “any concessions” from Senate Republicans through her delay.
  • Many Democrats called for President Trump to be impeached even before he took office.
  • The Founders designed the impeachment process as a way to remove officeholders from public office—not as a tool to punish private citizens.
  • Several prominent law professors, jurists, and nearly every Senate Republican have made clear they agree that this process is unconstitutional.
  • Democrats like Bernie Sanders already admitted to delaying action on important legislation like COVID relief for political gain, and now they are doing it again.
  • Democrats complained for four years about the desire to move on from President Trump. But now that they have the chance to focus on priorities like combatting COVID, opening our schools, distributing vaccines, and getting Americans back to work – they are focused on this distraction because they have nothing else to offer.
  • Republicans will keep fighting for American workers while Democrats are proving their calls for unity are disingenuous and would rather focus on a post-presidency impeachment.
  • RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel Op-Ed: Trump impeachment – here's what this charade tells us about Democrat priorities
