Integral Transformative Practice International
  - Fall Newsletter 2013 -

Dear Friends,

In September, our Mastery teachers convened to explore their vision for practice and the future of ITP. It was an exciting couple of meetings! The notion of envisioning the future also surfaced at Envisioning a World Transformed, an inspiring event I attended recently in Chicago, sponsored by Greenheart Transforms, our collaborator on the path of personal and social transformation.

As we shift into autumn, when days get shorter and nights longer, we are drawn inward toward our inner light to explore what really matters in our lives. What vision is emerging for you as 2013 comes to a close and we open to a fresh, new year?

What does your mind, body, heart and soul want for you? How would you like to bring more light to the world? Your ITPI community is here to support you!

Enjoy reading the stories in this issue of how ITP teachers, practitioners and group leaders have embarked on their path of practice and are making a difference in the world. Step inside their lives and see how we are all growing and lighting up the planet together.

Bountiful blessings to you and those you hold dear. I am very grateful we are laying down roots together.

Warm seasonal wishes,

Pam Kramer

ITPI President

Mastery Teachers Embrace the Emerging Future, You Can Too

by Roger Marsh, ITP Mastery Teacher

In September, ITP Mastery teachers gathered to envision and co-evolve various aspects of ITP and expand this great work out into the world (click here for new teacher bios and photos on the website). We asked ourselves some critical questions about the evolution of our personal practice, our vision and hope for ITP in the world and our inspiration to help make that vision a reality.

We began with an induction to lead each teacher in a deep exploration of how ITP is unfolding in his or her life. This was an inquiry into both our personal ITP practice and what's next for us in our lives and in the world. We shared our visions and unique callings and created a "collective" vision and creative path as an ITP teaching team.

Stepping Into the Streams of Aikido

and LET

by Charlotte Hatch
ITP Mastery Teacher

The founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba or O'Sensei, (1882-1969), refined his art throughout his life. By the 1930s, he had a vibrant Aikibudo dojo in Tokyo and many people, including important members of Japanese society and the military, trained with him. However, war was on the horizon, and O'Sensei believed that WWII would cause much death and carnage and end badly for Japan. Wanting no part of it, he left Tokyo just before the war began and moved to a farm in Iwama, 100 miles north. O'Sensei dedicated the rest of his life to farming, prayer and the cultivation of peace and harmony on earth through Aikido, the way of harmony with the energy of the universe, the Art of Peace.

In the mid-1960s, Robert Nadeau went to Japan to study Judo. After meeting O'Sensei, he changed plans. Finding a place to live with his wife only a block from Hombu Aikido Dojo in Tokyo, he immersed himself in the study of Aikido. O'Sensei had returned to Tokyo and was leading impromptu classes and seminars, and offering amazing demonstrations for the public. O'Sensei had something special. The energy that emanated from him was palpable. The whole dojo vibrated whenever...

Shivas Irons President Emeritus, Steve Cohen, Applauds ITPI and the Golf in the Kingdom Marathon Fundraiser

Dear Barry,

Thank you for your generous invitation and providing me the opportunity to participate in your recent ITPI fundraising event, the Golf in the Kingdom Marathon, at Peacock Gap Golf Club. It was truly a delightful and memorable day, and I was happy that I could be there and share such a positive experience with several other members of the Shivas Irons Society (SIS). It is not surprising that a golf event hosted by an organization like ITPI, which is working for the realization of the full human potential of body, mind, heart and soul would engender among the participants not only a strong sense of unity and camaraderie, but the true spirit of the larger community to which we all belong.

I especially appreciate the focus on the aspects of both learning and fun, with the learning exemplified by Bobby Clampett's excellent Impact Zone workshop that included the active participation of Champion Tour Players Steve Pate and Gary Hallberg. While I watched these remarkable athletes demonstrate their skill and mastery of the seemingly simple act of striking a golf ball...

ITP Tulsa Co-Leader and Mastery Graduate

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I teach, perform, compose and promote my music and the music of others. My visionary mother enrolled me in piano and violin lessons at the age of three, but it wasn't until the age of 11 that I made it my own, deciding to practice by myself and to do my very best. My mother, also a piano teacher, started giving me her over-flow students when I was 14, and my then piano teacher gave me his over-flow gigs as soon as I could drive.

I started arranging music in middle school, started composing music in high school and competed in many piano and composition competitions throughout those years and into college, where I earned a bachelors degree in Piano Performance. While working on a Masters in Orchestra Conducting, I found myself burned-out and felt the need for depth, honesty and community. When I finished the degree, I focused on discovering my true identity, calming down, reading, finding people that had what I wanted, and seeking, seeking, seeking.

ITP Commitment #3

I practice the ITP Kata at least five times a week.

The Kata has the synergistic effect of cultivating body, mind heart and soul on a daily basis. Performed as an active meditation, the Kata incorporates mind/body movement, transformational imaging, progressive relaxation and mindful stillness practice - ushering in grace and the transformative process into our lives.

The ITP Kata audio CD set is now available.

ITP Sweden

by Ann Storm Horn, ITP Sweden Group Leader

ITP has gone abroad! As of August 2013,

there is a formal

group meeting in Gvle, Sweden. It all started in 2011 when I attended an ITP pre-conference workshop at the IONS conference in San Francisco. And what a workshop it was. It exceeded all my expectations. When I thanked the workshop leaders, Barry and Pam, for a great day, I surprised myself by saying, "I would like to take ITP to Sweden."

Said and done! When I returned to Sweden, I invited two friends to join me in exploring several aspects of ITP: the Nine Commitments, the Kata and the book The Life We Are Given. One of our big topics was the integration of ITP into the Swedish language and culture. What was the true meaning of such and such, how should it be translated and would this or that fit "the Swedish disposition?"
