Dear Friend:
This month, I was glad to stand with Assemblymember David Buchwald and community leaders in Bedford as we announced that Governor Andrew Cuomo had signed into law a bill we sponsored transferring state land to the Town of Bedford.
Read more in the section below about this new law which will save money for Bedford property taxpayers.
Also earlier in the month, the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) released their annual score card rating members of the legislature on whether they supported or voted in favor of key pieces of pro-environment legislation.
I am proud to announce that I received a perfect score from the NYLCV and was named a "Rising Star" for "shrewd advocacy" for pro-environment causes in the legislature!
As always, if
there is a concern you think my office can help you with, please don't hesitate to call us at 914-934-5250.
Warm regards,
Shelley B. Mayer

NEW LAW SAVES
BEDFORD
TAXPAYERS DOLLARS
|
On July 31st, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill I sponsored with Assemblymember David Buchwald which transfers unused state land owned by the Department of Corrections to the Town of Bedford, saving local taxpayer dollars.
S. 8349/A. 7559, repurposes a wastewater treatment facility on state land to allow it to be used by the Town of Bedford. The town will expand its own wastewater treatment operations through the use of this land to serve the nearby business districts in Bedford Hills and Katonah, as well as residential areas and the Bedford Hills Elementary School.
The land acquisition will relieve the town from having to construct its own wastewater treatment facility to serve these areas, thereby saving Bedford property taxpayers dollars. The land transfer also enables the Town of Bedford to apply for additional grants which were previously unavailable. Read more about this new law here.

"SHREWD ADVOCACY" FOR
PRO-ENVIRONMENT CAUSES
|
The New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) works to provide state and local governments with objective information on environmental policy supporting the environment. Through their work, they also rate members of the state legislature annually depending on how the members supported or voted on key bills in the State Senate or Assembly.
I am thrilled with my perfect score on NYLCV's 2018 State Environmental Scorecard, as well as my designation as a "Rising Star" because of my "shrewd advocacy." Ensuring the health of our environment is of paramount importance to me and to the State. Thank you to all who donated to my Dental Care Drive for 135 Port Chester Day Campers at the Carver Center! The donation drive was a tremendous success with big help from Colgate which donated over 400 toothbrushes.

Every summer, I am glad to participate in JCY-Westchester Community Partners' Summer Reading Buddies. I have the opportunity to read together with children at the Yonkers Riverfront Library in an effort to combat the "summer slide."
Find out more about the program here.
