A Note From Pastor Linda

But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.
~1 Chronicles 15

Dear Friends in Christ~

What began in 1854 as a territorial fair to highlight agriculture and encourage farming in the region became the Minnesota State Fair in 1859, a year after Minnesota was grated statehood. Today, often referred to as the "Great Minnesota Get-Together," the annual Minnesota State Fair is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region.

A few Fair Facts:
  • The fair attracts nearly 2 million guests annually.
  • The fair employs nearly 80 year-round full-time staff members.
  • During the summer, about 400 seasonal staff are added.
  • More than 3000 people are hired as fair-time staff members.
  • Then there are the MANY volunteers- that's Hosanna!

The Minnesota State Fair "hires" Hosanna to clean the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum. Hosanna receives $11,750 in support of our General Ministries- plus a State Fair ticket for every volunteer. (You will need this to enter the fair). About the Coliseum:
  • The Minnesota State Fair boasts one of the largest livestock exhibitions in the Upper Midwest, which means the action never stops at the 5,000-seat Warner Coliseum.
  • From majestic to agile to graceful to heart-pounding, there are judged and timed events featuring draft horses, shepherding dogs, beef and dairy cattle, bull riding, horse jumping, barrel racing, English horse riding and much more.
  • Dozens of vendors selling a wide variety of merchandise - including the best in western wear - fill the concourse.

When the Coliseum closes at 9pm the doors are locked and Hosanna-people enter and ready to clean the grandstands and outer concourse. All ages are welcome- this is a great family-serve opportunity! What do you need to bring?
  • A good attitude- sometimes we need to wait for the horses to complete their competition.
  • A pair of gloves (disposable gloves are provided).
  • Close-toed shoes and comfy cool clothes. You will get dirty!
  • Water- and maybe a snack!
  • Ride Share is available! Meet at Forest Lake 5 Theatre at 8pm!
We need between 10-15 people every night from August 22 through Labor Day, September 3. Join Mark and me, we typically sign up for 3 nights of service.

See you at Church... and at the Great MN Get-Together!

Got Questions? Get Answers.
New Fall Sunday Series Starting September 9

Everyone has questions.  Young children ask "why?"  Teenagers ask "why not?"  Adults question "what if?"  Do you have questions about God, Jesus, the Bible?  Do you have questions about life?  Do you have questions for God about life?  Every day, more and more people are going to Siri or Alexa or Google to find answers to their questions about and for God.  I have a better idea:  Come to Hosanna to "get answers."

Book Club
Tuesday, September 25 at 7pm

Hosted in homes- read the book and ready for lively discussions.  New readers are always welcome!
September Read:
Educated:  A Memoir by Tara Westover
An unforgettable memoir about a young girl who, kept out of school, leaves her survivalist family and goes on to earn a PhD from Cambridge University.
The story begins:  Tara Westover was 17 the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home-canned peaches and sleeping with her "head-for-the-hills bag". In the summer she stewed herbs for her mother, a midwife and healer, and in the winter she salvaged in her father's junkyard.
Discussion Date:  Tuesday, September 25 at 7pm at Kelly Monson's home.
