Federation 2019 budget submission
The Federation has submitted its key recommendations for the federal 2019 budget. We are recommending that the government increase funding for the humanities and social sciences, improve support for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows, expand work-integrated learning opportunities, and improve post-secondary access and success for Indigenous peoples. Research consultations closing Aug 27
The federal government is seeking input on several important questions affecting the research community, and there is a very short window to participate. Share your insights on a new $275-million tri-agency fund, new equity and diversity initiatives and supports for early-career researchers, before August 27.
Have your 
say  on data management 
Canada's major research funders have developed a new data management policy and are welcoming feedback until August 31. This policy will affect many aspects of how research data is collected, stored, and used for years to come. HSS scholars are encouraged to share their thoughts to ensure that the policy reflects our community's unique needs.
Indigenous Research Capacity & Reconciliation Grants
The launch of the new tri-agency  Indigenous Research Capacity & Reconciliation - Connection Grants invites  proposals from applicants affiliated with First Nations, Métis and Inuit not-for-profit organizations or any discipline in the Canadian PSE system. The deadline to submit your application is September 6.
Help improve equity in research
The federal government is launching a new program designed to improve equity and diversity in the research community, modeled after the U.K.'s Athena SWAN program. The program designers are seeking input from the research community this fall. Learn more about how to participate in a workshop or about how to submit your ideas in writing.

Remembering Terry
Over the course of the summer, the Federation came together to celebrate the life of cherished colleague Terry D'Angelo, Director of Congress & Events. Terry was well known in the community as she had shared her skills, energy and kindness with the Federation for the past 6 years. Read the Federation's newest blog, Thinking about War. This blog offers the perspective of a Congress 2018 participant on this year's  Big Thinking lecture entitled Thinking about War with Margaret MacMillan, C.C. organized by the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences and the University of Regina Members of the university research community are invited to make guest blog submissions on issues relating to the well-being of the humanities and social sciences research and learning enterprise in Canada.

Congress 2019 planning begins
