Dear Saints of Saxe Gotha,

Soon our parking lot will be full of small ghouls, goblins, other scary creatures, along with superheroes and princesses with bags heavy and full of enough sugary treats to bring any dentist to tears! The aroma of hotdogs will waft through the air while webs of cotton candy are spun. Giggles and joyful screams will be heard as children bounce up and down on inflatables and play various games. That's right, Fall Fest is upon us once more, but are you ready?

Our annual Fall Festival offers us a unique opportunity that we are not often afforded. On one afternoon our campus will be flooded with hundreds of our neighbors who might not otherwise set foot on our campus. They will come for the candy, food and clean fun, but could it be that they are meant to leave with more?

Throughout the past few months, we have been focusing in worship and in study on how God is calling all believers to be fruitful on their frontlines. God wants to use us in the places where we have been planted to bring about the flourishing of His Kingdom. God has positioned Saxe Gotha along a main artery of Lexington and in a central location of our town. How will we be good stewards of this blessing?

This coming Sunday afternoon our frontline will come to us, and if we are not careful, we just might miss a pivotal opportunity. A single mother, broken and overwhelmed by her responsibilities will come to us. Will you be there to offer her hope? A father, normally preoccupied with work as his sole sense of purpose, will come with his kids, while trying to offer his wife a brief respite. Will you be there to point him to a greater purpose? A woman, harboring a discouraging diagnosis of cancer, will come seeking a good time for her children while she tries to figure out her next steps. Will you be there to offer your support?

Every person who comes to our Fall Fest will have a story and whether they know it or not, they have a deeper yearning that only our God can fill. Fall Fest is about so much more than providing a good time for the community. It is an opportunity for us to rub shoulders with our neighbors and seek further opportunities for divine appointments. We are giving out more than confections and cheer. We are planting Gospel seeds, some of which just might come to maturity before our eyes! Are you ready?

I hope you will join us this Sunday, October 20th for our Fall Fest from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm. If you have not yet volunteered to help, you can do so online at https://signup.com/login/entry/598614444089. I look forward to seeing you there and hearing about how God will use this opportunity to bring about His harvest!

When Jesus looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. "What a huge harvest!" he said to his disciples. "How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!" - Matthew 9:37-38 paraphrase The MESSAGE

Grace and Peace,
Patrick Cherry

The TALK: An Open Discussion About Parenting Today
Join us on Wednesday Nights from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the Light House Cafe through November 6.

We've all wished that our children came with an instruction manual or handbook. Parenting is wonderful, but also extremely difficult. It only seems to get harder in an age of rapidly changing technology, new pressures, and emerging dangers. We are all trying to figure it out! God may not have given us all the instructions, but He did give us community. The old African proverb "It takes a village to raise a child" is very true. We need all the help we can get, and it is time to pool our collective knowledge and wrestle with these big topics together!

This Fall we are offering a new opportunity for parents to have discussions around the big topics of our day. We are calling it "The TALK". Yes, we will likely discuss the birds and the bees in today's highly sexualized culture, but we are going to talk about much more. This is not a class or a lecture. There will be no workbook. What we will have is some battle worn parents, some coffee and drinks, and some open conversations about the things that really matter to today's parents. Come talk and join the discussion!

Prayer Shawl Ministry:
Meets on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month in Room 154, MB  (10:00- 11:30 am). If you like to knit, or would like to learn to knit, this group is for you. Questions? Call Polly Askew at 803-359-7263.

This ministry is in need of additional members.  If this is an area you could help with, please call Renee' Starnes at 359-7770 ext. 37 or email [email protected] .
Memory Café:   (October 31, the last Thursday of the month) 10:30-11:30 am in the Light House Atrium) provides a gathering place for friends with Alzheimer's (or other dementias), along with their caregivers and families, to relax and enjoy socialization, refreshments, discussion and Christ-centered encouragement. Contact Jennifer Dever:    [email protected]  or 359-7770 if you are interested in volunteering or attending.
Caring Connections Brotherhood: Men - looking for a local band of brothers?  Then check out the Caring Connections Brotherhood.  This group of gentlemen meets weekly to provide fellowship and support for men in our church family and in the greater community. Join them each Tuesday at 12:00 noon at the Flight Deck Restaurant here in Lexington (109-A Old Chapin Rd.) The Brotherhood does more than just meet for lunch and laughter - on occasion they also have special speakers, take day excursions and visit other men who are homebound. To get involved in the Caring Connections Brotherhood, please contact: Mike Graves (703-481-8166) or at [email protected].
Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed:
The local Meals on Wheels program provides many services for seniors all around Lexington.  The program is in need of additional volunteers to deliver meals as part of their Meals on Wheels service, which delivers about 500 meals a week. If you would like to volunteer, please call Ann or Loretta at 803-957-7979 at the Lexington Senior Center.

Drive Thru Prayer:

:15-8:15 am, SGPC  Parking Lot.  Join together as we love and support community members in need of prayer.
