Details:

Quincy College Adjunct Faculty Member and Quincy native Morgan Davis' artwork has been selected from a field of over 400 artists, and was displayed in an artwork exhibition at the Cape Cod Art Center's "The National" Exhibition. The  annual open juried exhibit included 88 pieces artwork from artists across the United States and is always one of Cape Cod Art Center's biggest and most prestigious exhibits of the year.

Davis' artwork is titled "Vineyard Sound" and is an 18"x46" oil on panel.   The scenic landscape depicted is from the very southern-most tip of Falmouth bordering Woods Hole on Cape Cod.

Reflecting on the vista captured, in "Vineyard Sound," Davis states: "  On the south coastal shores of Woods Hole, there is a small footpath with a very scenic overlook of Vineyard Sound from the Nobska Point Lighthouse rise. From this vantage point, one experiences breathtaking views of neighboring Elizabeth Islands, Woods Hole promontory and Nobska Beach. This scene is reminiscent of our many vacation summers spent in Falmouth, Woods Hole and ferrying to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket."

Working in both plain air art sessions and in-studio, Davis recalls that day that she discovered this scenic spot: " The morning I visited this spot, it was almost noon one day during 4th of July holiday. The sun was very high in the sky and radiated brilliantly into the shallows of the Nobska Point receding tide. I was particularly captivated with the tones of the water itself, as at this moment, it was obvious from the semi-tropical warm marine tones, that these waters, indeed originated from the Gulf Stream and I wondered if it were possible for us to have these colored waters so far away from the tropical equatorial zone. As I stood high up on that lookout, I realized that I had to capture this amazing vista on canvas and portray the scene in its entirety as one unified, extended panorama. It was a very long time in the making, but it was so immensely worth it."

An English as a Second Language faculty member at Quincy College's Quincy Campus, Davis applies lessons learned at the easel to her teaching pedagogy: " The mastery of language is an art just as much as painting. Just like studio painting, you have to be patient when exploring a new skill. I love seeing the results of creativity but you have to be in it for the duration. Every piece of art is a learning experience for the next painting."

Davis' work can be seen all across the South Shore with recent work on display in Hingham and Rockland.  Her shared studio space, 4th Floor Artists is based in Rockland which hosts open studio twice a year in April and November. "Vineyard Sound" is available for purchase.
