WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY
@ 9:15 AM (contemporary praise, lower level)
@ 10:30 AM (blended traditional, sanctuary)
THIS SUNDAY IS LAITY SUNDAY!
This is a special Sunday established by the General Conference to be observed on the third Sunday in October. Laity Sunday focuses on the celebration of the ministry of all lay Christians. At Wayne Church, Laity Sunday is observed by having lay persons lead all parts of the worship service.
OVERTURNED KINGDOMS CONTINUES NOVEMBER 3
Who is Jesus Christ according to the Gospel of Luke? Preferring the company of tax collectors and sinners, he passed by the respectable and the righteous. He talked to women, welcomed children and touched those considered unclean. He told stories where Samaritans and outcasts were the heroes. In the kingdom he foretold, the first would be last and the last first, and the greatest would be the servant of all. Nowhere is it more evident than in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus overturned more than money-changing tables – he overturned kingdoms.

You do not need to be a member to attend and friends are always welcome. Financial assistance is available if needed.

COFFEE WITH THE PASTOR STARTS
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10!
For Inquirers & those considering Membership to Wayne Church
Sundays, November 10, 17 & 24 @ NOON in the Upper Room.
There are few greater joys in the life of the church than receiving new members. WAYNECHURCH will be adding to our church family in the coming months. This time together is designed to get to know the Pastor, explore personal faith, Methodism, and how we seek to express these beliefs here at Wayne. If you wish to explore the possibility of membership or wish to attend and learn more about the church, please email Pastor Tom. Childcare will be provided. The Upper Room is located on the 2 nd floor of the Admin. Building. Signs will be posted.
LOVE COFFEE & SERVING?
Do you enjoy meeting and greeting people? The Well Team is looking to recruit more servers to help on Sunday mornings. Duties would include pouring coffee and greeting your friends with a warm smile! The team is looking to gather enough folks that want to help build a rotation schedule for Sunday mornings so serving would be a once-a-month job. Interested or have questions? Contact the church office or Ian Wilson below.
LEADERSHIP UPDATE
Anne Mackin, talked about the Love part of our Mission Statement: Love and Serve Through Christ. One of the best ways we can show and receive love is to connect with our Christian friends in a small group setting. Gathering with others in our church family is a great way to build true friendships, and create close bonds. When we pray with and for each other, through the painful struggles and the joyous celebrations, we create a community of caring. We have many opportunities for that here at Wayne such as the Bible Studies offered both on Sunday mornings and during the week and other activities like the ladies’ fall retreat, potluck dinners, book discussions, fish fry, fantasy football and the Lunch & Learn monthly speaker series. Please consider joining in on the Love!
NEXT LADIES’ BOOK UP FOR DISCUSSION
When: Tuesday, November 12 at 7pm
Where: Michele Leonard’s home (check directory or office for address)
What: Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah
Since this is a newer book, the used copies on Amazon aren't any cheaper than the new copies so there will not be copies to buy at church. The library system has 23 copies but you need to put this very popular book on hold as they move fast. Also consider the Audio version. Trevor narrates and it’s very enjoyable to listen to. Here is a short summary of what the book is about from the publisher:

Trevor Noah’s unlikely path from apartheid South Africa to the desk of  The Daily Show  began with a criminal act: his birth. Trevor was born to a white Swiss father and a black Xhosa mother at a time when such a union was punishable by five years in prison. Living proof of his parents’ indiscretion, Trevor was kept mostly indoors for the earliest years of his life, bound by the extreme and often absurd measures his mother took to hide him from a government that could, at any moment, steal him away. Finally liberated by the end of South Africa’s tyrannical white rule, Trevor and his mother set forth on a grand adventure, living openly and freely and embracing the opportunities won by a centuries-long struggle.

GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE!
Thanksgiving is quickly approaching! The Food Pantry teams would like to ask your help in donating frozen turkeys for our recipients.  Many grocery stores have reward programs for turkeys and we accept certificates for those too! We will distribute turkeys on November 20 & 21 so please plan to drop off your turkey or certificate by Sunday, November 17. Help us provide a Happy Thanksgiving to our neighbors. Thank you!
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Bring the love of Christ to children across the globe by filling a shoebox! Operation Christmas Child collects shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items and delivers them to children in need around the world to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way. For many of these children, the gift-filled shoebox is the first gift they have ever received. Last year Samaritan’s Purse, distributed 11 million shoeboxes worldwide! Look for the display in the office lobby.  They will be collected on Sunday, November 10. Thank you for making a difference in the life of a child!

CHOSEN 300 IS OCTOBER 26! SHOPPERS & COOKS NEEDED!
Every other month, Wayne Church provides a home-cooked meal for the homeless at Chosen 300’s Pottstown location. We still have some spots open for both shopping and cooking so click below and sign up!  Questions? Please contact Kimm Ebersole or Agnes Fischer below.
SAVE THE DATE FOR COSTA RICA!
Our 2020 Costa Rica Mission trip will occur March 21 - 28.   This will be Wayne Church's eighth trip to Costa Rica in support of this ministry.   This is a great opportunity to live Acts 1:8 and be God's witnesses "to the ends of the  earth."   There will be an informational session immediately following church this Sunday, October 20th in the youth room (#E204 Floor 2R).   All are welcome!   We are excited to announce that Wil Bailey, the founder of the Costa Rica Mission Project, will be visiting Wayne Church and sharing his message on Sunday, October 27th.   If you are interested in hearing more, are thinking about going, or have any questions, please contact Chris Leonard below.
CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER!
As Christians our Biblical instructions are clear: Love our neighbors.   And Jesus explains that our hurting neighbors are the ones we primarily need to focus on.   He promises that we will be asked when we have fed the needy, supported the widow, visited the prisoner.   Wait - the prisoner??   How many of us have had the opportunity to love those in prison?   That will change this year as Wayne Church dips our big toe in our conference's Prison Ministry.   We will do this by providing Christmas cards to be delivered to PA prisoners this Christmas.   Because this requires a bit of a process, we need to create the cards this month to deliver to Conference in early November.   So, please stop by our Christmas In October Card Party table before or after worship one Sunday in October and write some cards!! The requirements are VERY specific, so be sure to read what you need to do at the table.   We appreciate your participation in this new Wayne Church ministry!
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL RUMMAGE!
The Rummage team thanks   all who donated to, worked during, and shopped at our September 20-21 Rummage Sale!   Once again, we had fun, saved lots from landfills, gathered goods for Chosen 300 and Cradles to Crayons, and created community as we shared treasures.   We have consistently generated well over $1000 in proceeds from our Rummage sales in recent years, and this one was no exception.   Because we are selling a couple of very generous donations on eBay, we won't know our final proceeds for a few weeks yet, but the number should come to at least $1700.   AND, we made a special donation of $500 from this sale to Bahamian Hurricane relief.   As always, God richly blesses us with these sales as we get a chance to share His blessings with others.
Our Food Pantry has been chosen to be Acme’s FEATURED CHARITY for the month of October!! The ACME Giving Tag Program is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal to make a difference in the communities where shoppers live and work. When a shopper purchases the $3 reusable GIVE BACK WHERE IT COUNTS bag at any ACME store, they have the opportunity to direct a $1 donation to a local non-profit by using the attached Giving Tag. If they don’t designate, it comes to us! Even after October is over, the Food Pantry can still receive donations through designation! It’s a win – win!
STUDIES AND CLASSES
HISTORY OF THE BIBLE
When: Sundays @ 9:15am
Where: Counters room (#E101, Floor 1R)
Have you ever wondered how the Bible came to be? Join us as we study the story of the world's most influential book. The Bible is not a prescription to a complete, fixed religious system, but rather a product of a long and intriguing process, which has inspired Judaism and Christianity, but still does not describe the whole of either religion. This class will be led by Lowell Gustafson. Click below to learn more about this fantastic study!
THE MIRACLES OF JESUS
When: Sundays @ 9:15am
Where: The Upper Room (#A204, Floor 2)
The Miracles of Jesus, by Jennie Allen, is about a God who can accomplish anything. Do you ever feel like the situation you’re facing is too big even for God? Sometimes we face problems, people, or circumstances that seem impossible to overcome. Yet the Bible shows us time and again how Jesus performed miracles during his time on earth. We see that he is generous, compassionate, and honoring toward all of us—and nothing is too big or too small for us to bring to him.   Spend time exploring the four Gospels during this seven-session study, filmed on location in Israel. You’ll find yourself in awe of a God who relentlessly seeks, saves, and restores us.
A STUDY OF THE APOCRYPHA
When: Wednesdays @ 9:15-11:15am
Where: Upper Room (#A204, Floor 2)
All are welcome to the Wednesday morning Bible Study as we tackle the Apocrypha. What's the Apocrypha? It's a series of 15 books written during the time between the Old and New Testaments. These books were originally included in the Septuagint, the version of the Hebrew Scriptures translated into Greek between the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC which was the early church's Bible. While the Catholic Church generally includes them in the Bible, the Protestant does not. Come and see what you think. This class is led by Katie McNabb.
LADIES EVENING BIBLE STUDY
When: Alternating Wednesdays @ 7pm
Dates: 10/23, 11/6, 11/20
Where: Kimm Ebersole’s (check directory or email Kimm for address)
Please plan to join us as we unpack this Bible study, written by the creators of “The War Room”. This study guides readers through examining how we determine and find our true identity in Christ. We will then watch the movie together as a group .
Overcomer: Many people feel they are less than who God says they are. We get our identity from our careers, political positions, roles in the family, among other things.   However, what is true about us is that we are made by a God who loves us, and the Gospel can bring us into a relationship with Him. When we understand who God is, we understand who we are. Available on Amazon (use Amazon Smile in order for our church to get a percentage!) Cost per book is $8.99 Feel free to join us even if you do not purchase the book – it is not required!
LADIES TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY
When: Tuesdays @ 10:15
Where: Conference Room
We started our studies off with the Book of Mathew. This is a nurturing group led by Nancy Brown, happy to have you regardless of your level of Bible knowledge. We move at a slow pace. Only requirement is a desire to connect and grow. We always open with a time of sharing and praying. Please consider giving our group a try!
PRAYER 101
When: Wednesdays @ 7pm
Where: Upper Room ( #A204, Floor 2)
After taking this 9 week class, expect to be a transformed person: comfortable, confident and bold in praying. Based on " Praying to Change Your Life" by Pastor Suzette Caldwell, this class will help you gain a greater understanding of why we pray and how to pray over any topic on earth and most importantly, to be effective in praying. This class will be led by Charles Caristan.
SIMON PETER: FLAWED BUT FAITHFUL DISCIPLE
When: Thursdays @ 7pm
Where: Upper Room (#A204, Floor 2)
He left everything to follow his teacher and possessed a passion that would change the world. That’s one way to describe Peter. Here’s another: poor, uneducated, quick-tempered, and full of doubts and fears. Doesn’t even sound like the same man. And that’s the point of this 7 week Bible study by Adam Hamilton. Peter was just an ordinary guy who followed God’s extraordinary call. Discover how you, too, have special gifts, talents, and abilities that God can use to make a difference today. This class will be led by Galen Black.
MEN'S BREAKFAST
When: 1st & 3rd Thursdays at 6:15am
Date: November 7
Where: The Well
Join us while we continue the conversation about Generation Z and how to ensure the next generation understands and embraces a biblical worldview.

3RD QUARTER FINANCE UPDATE
For the first nine months of 2019, revenue was $599,175.    Revenue is slightly ahead of budget and above the prior year as higher offering offset a decline in building rental income.   Total expenses were $570,184, which is also slightly above budget and the prior year expenses.    While we are on pace to achieve a balanced operating budget in 2019, church reserves remain $164,000 below historical levels due to building investments and operating deficits in prior years.
