Wellness Workshop January Updates

Michigan State Extension will be teaching an 8-week ‘Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention’ class beginning on Wednesday, January 8
th
from 1-3pm. This class is designed to increase strength, balance and prevent falls. Preregistration is required and space is limited, please call the MSU Extension office at (231) 582-6232 to register.
Wellness Wednesday $15 Cholesterol Screenings every Wednesday from 8am-11am. Health screens include: Total Cholesterol, HDL, TC/HDL Ratio, Glucose Level, Body Mass Index Score, Muscle and Fat Percentages and a Blood Pressure Reading. Cost for the service is $15, no appointment necessary. Participants will receive all test results at the time of the screening and a “Know Your Numbers” log to track progress. A Registered Nurse will adapt health consultation and educational materials to individual results.

NCMC Culinary Apprenticeship Program
|
|
North Central Michigan College is launching a first-of-its-kind apprenticeship program that will give culinary professionals the opportunity to build their skills and advance their careers. The program is the result of North Central’s partnership with Boyne Highlands Resort, Boyne Mountain Resort, the Inn at Bay Harbor, Northwest Michigan Works! and the American Culinary Federation.
The comprehensive apprenticeship program is open to Boyne employees and includes paid, on-the-job training that will culminate in a North Central Certificate of Development in Hospitality, a U.S. Department of Labor credential, and Certified Sous Chef® designation from the American Culinary Federation, which is widely regarded as the gold standard in culinary accreditation. Boyne is offering the two-year, 4,000-hour apprenticeship at no cost to its employees. The apprenticeship program is the latest example of an innovative North Central partnership. Boyne employees may apply for the apprenticeship program via Boyne’s website through December 20, 2019.

Chambers Named New Manager of Marketing and Development at Charlevoix Area Community Pool

The Board of Directors of the Charlevoix Area Community Pool are pleased to announce that Janet Begrow Chambers has been named the pool’s new Manager of Marketing and Development. She joins the organization on a contract basis and will be assisting with community outreach and public relations, as well as promotions surrounding fundraising events and activities. Chambers grew up in Charlevoix and moved here from Central Pennsylvania in 2018. She holds a marketing degree from Michigan State University and is glad to be back in Sparty territory. Janet has more than 30 years of experience in marketing communications including working with several advertising agencies and in corporate marketing positions. She has owned her own marketing company, Beacon Marketing Solutions, for the last 18 years.

Architect Elaine Keiser Featured in Great Lakes by Design
Elaine Keiser, President and Principal of Elaine Keiser Architect Inc., was one of six featured architects in a continued series by Great Lakes By Design magazine. Keiser launched her company in 2000 with a passion for creating architecture focused on clients’ dreams, winning awards such as the LEED Gold Rating for her work with the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians housing development and creating icons such as the Kilwin’s Headquarters of Petoskey.
