CPHSSR Director Reappointed

Dr. Glen Mays, professor of Health Management and Policy, has been reappointed as Director of the Center for Public Health Systems and Services Research for a four-year period, effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2022.

Reappointment as Good Samaritan Chair
|
Dr. Richard Crosby, professor of Health, Behavior & Society, has been reappointed as
Good Samaritan Chair in Health Education, Research, Health Promotion, and Preventive Services, effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2023.

Dr. Joseph A. Benitez joined CPH on July 1 as an assistant professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy.

Dr. Hannah Ruehl, Educational Technology Coordinator, will be leaving CPH for a new position in UK CELT. Her last day at CPH will be July 14. The College extends best wishes to Hannah in her future endeavors.

New Administrative Personnel
Heather Fortney has been hired to support Health, Behavior & Society, Biostatistics, Gerontology and the Dean's office. Heather will start on July 16.
Bonnie Gay has been hired to support Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Management and Policy, and SEAS. Bonnie will start on July 9.

IRC Funding for ALS Genetic Research
|
Funding from the UK Igniting Research Collaboration (IRC) program will enable a multi-disciplinary team of researchers to further explore these familial and genetic connections in ALS.
Dr. Haining Zhu, UK College of Pharmacy, and
Dr. David Fardo, UK College of Public Health Biostatistics, are co-PIs on the pilot project entitled “Searching for Genetic Modifiers in Familial ALS.” Co-investigators are
Dr. Edward Kasarskis and
Dr. Daret St. Clair, UK College of Medicine. The research will be supported by $30,000 in IRC funding for a 6-month project period; the investigators will report on their progress in early Spring 2019.

LGBTQ Aging Project Funding Renewed
|
The
Kentucky LGBTQ Aging Needs Assessment
has been refunded for three years by
JustFundKY
. To date, the project is one of the largest state-based assessments of LGBTQ health among older adults.
