Summer Book Study & Potluck
Continues Aug. 22 at 6:30pm in the Parish Hall
If gratitude is good, why is it so hard to do? In our current political climate, might a more radical practice of gratitude be the one thing we need most right now? In Grateful , Diana Butler Bass weaves together social science research, spiritual wisdom, and contemporary issues as she calls for a richer understanding of gratitude. What emerges are surprising insights about the power of thankful living to change how we treat one another, and how we might transform our world.

We'll begin each session with a potluck supper (bring a favorite dish to share) in the parish hall and then digest Bass' cultural findings and spiritual wonderings, a couple chapters at a time:

Wed. August 8 - Chapters 1 and 2
Wed. August 22 - Chapters 3 and 4
Wed. August 29 - Chapters 5 and 6
Wed. September 5 - Chapters 7 and 8

Please purchase your own copy of the book. We've registered our study group with Brilliant Books on Front Street. They will have copies of the book on hand at 20% off the retail price. If you have questions, contact James Deaton via this link  or by phone at 231-835-0989.

Holy Eucharist & Picnic on Boardman Lake

Join us for an outdoor service celebrated at Hull Park, located directly behind the Traverse Area District Library on Woodmere Ave.  Bring a chair or two to share for seating.  We will also have a potluck meal immediately following the service at the park.  Bring a dish to share and your own table service and drink. If it rains we will have our service and potluck meal at the church.   Everyone is invited for this outdoor service along the shore of Boardman Lake.

Annual Book Study at St. Paul's, Elk Rapids
Led by The Rev. Dr. Kathy Kircher
Begins Aug. 20
All are welcome to join the conversation as we discuss Walter Brueggemann's latest book, A Gospel of Hope. The Rev. Dr. Bruggemann is widely considered to be one of the most influential Old Testament scholars of the last several decades. Bruggemann shares his wisdom on topics ranging from anxiety and abundance to partisanship and the role of faith in public life. No registration is required, but participants are asked to contribute $10 and bring a copy of the book (available from Amazon or your local bookstore). The group will meet on four Mondays: Aug. 20 & 27, and Sept. 10 & 17, from 4pm to 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Look for the flyer on the bulletin board in our parish hall.

Turn in your Oleson's receipts to benefit the Grace Food Pantry!

Oleson's Community Share Program

Here's how it works:
  1. You shop at Oleson's for groceries (liquor sales do not qualify for points)
  2. Turn in your receipts to the church.  Look for the envelope on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall, and place your receipts inside it.
  3. We submit receipts back to Oleson's
  4. We are granted cash rewards for the food pantry ($1 spent on groceries = 1 cent in Community Share points)

For every $5000 in receipts we submit, we receive $50 in cash for our food pantry.  Every little bit helps!

Thank you for participating!
