Happy Labor Day from AIA Kentucky! Whether you are spending it shopping the sales, sitting by the pool or staying close to home, we hope that you are enjoying a day of rest. 2018 Kentucky Construction Code Forum
September 30-October 2, 2018 in Louisville
The department of Housing, Buildings and Construction invites you to the 2018 Kentucky Construction Code Forum. The Forum is designed to encourage interactions between different sectors of Kentucky's construction industry. It will feature two days of content taught by leading experts in the construction industry and offer opportunities to broaden your professional network.

Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST -
FREE Webinars
This fall, Fair Housing Accessibility FIRST will be providing several webinars for those who cannot make it to their in-person trainings. FHA FIRST is an AIA registered Continuing Education provider, so architects will receive up to
1.5 AIA LU|HSW per webinar. The webinars will all be 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM EDT, with 5 minutes for opening remarks and 15 minutes devoted to a Q&A if time permits. The modules that will be referenced can be found

2018 Excellence in Preservation Awards
Submission Deadline: September 13, 2018
Nominations are open for Preservation Kentucky's 2018 Excellence in Preservation Awards. Recipients will be honored at their Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony to be held at historic Undulata Farm in Shelby County on Saturday, October 27. Hanley Wood Design Awards
Submission Deadline: September 28, 2018
The Wood Products Council is looking for innovative building systems and techniques, as well as projects that showcase attributes of wood such as strength, beauty, versatility, cost-effectiveness and sustainability. 2017-18 Kitchen Design Contest
Submission Deadline: January 31, 2019
For over 20 years, Sub-Zero, Wolf, and Cove have celebrated inspiring, innovative kitchen designs and their talented creators, through the Kitchen Design Contest. The American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA) announced in August that R. Wayne Estopinal, AIA has attained Fellowship status.
Fellowship is granted to ACHA Board certified architects specializing in health care who have shown distinction in fulfilling an area of expertise as determined by the College's Council of Fellows.

CoD News
It is shaping up to be a busy and exciting fall semester at the UK College of Design. The students returned to campus last week with their contagious energy, and the Design Career Fair Committee is gearing up for the CoD's 2nd Annual Design Career Fair, which will be held in early spring.
Through their Community Re/Visions series, the CoD will kick start the MUED program with Land Grab: A Film Screening & Public Conversation on September 7 at KMAC in Louisville, KY. Immediately following the film screening, they will host one of the main figures in the film, John Hantz, for a moderated conversation along with guest Marshall Brown. Brown is an urbanist and principal of Marshall Brown Projects. He has also recently joined the School of Architecture at Princeton University as an Associate Professor and Director of their Center for Architecture, Urbanism, and Infrastructure. Read More.
Finally, the College of Design invites you to attend a Faculty Exhibition, running now until October 28 in the Community Gallery at the Lexington Downtown Arts Center. An official reception will be held Friday, Sept. 21 from 5-8 p.m. during the Gallery Hop.

The Last Word
Our amazing Executive Vice President is taking advantage of the Labor Day holiday to enjoy a much needed and well-deserved vacation. When she returns next week, we will be jumping headfirst into the final stages of preparation for an amazing week in Columbus, Indiana
