SEEKING CANDIDATES FOR CHAMBER BOARD

The Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking for potential candidates for our open board of directors positions. We are currently seeking board seat nominations for three-year terms covering 2019 - 2021, and we invite qualified members to run for a seat on our board of directors. Serving on the Chamber's board of directors is a great way to become more engaged with the organization, connect with the regional business community and stand out as a leader among your peers.

Current Directors whose terms expire in 2018 are Ron Chriss, Al DeFlaviis, Brad Lukas, Angie Lommen, Dr. Christine Johns, Mike Kramer, John Winter and Mark Vanderpool. We currently have no vacant seats, so we will be filling eight (8) spots to three-year terms.

Eligible directors and qualified members with an interest in serving on our board can submit nominations for consideration by our Nominating Committee. Please contact Chamber President Melanie Davis at 586.731.5400 x22 or [email protected], for more information and to obtain the necessary application.

MEMBER TIP:
REVISITING CHOICE OF ENTITY: SHOULD MY BUSINESS CONVERT TO A C CORP.?
by UHY LLP
Six months following the enactment of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2018, many questions still remain unanswered regarding the implementation of the new law. However, tax planning is a fluid process and the time is ripe to revisit many new provisions. In 2018, the corporate tax rate was lowered from 35 percent to 21 percent which is significantly lower than the top individual tax rate of 37 percent. On its face, it would seem that being taxed as a C corporation may make the most sense, but actually it is the starting point of the evaluation process to determine the best choice of entity.

M-59 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATE FROM MDOT:

MDOT contractors continue to move forward with the reconstruction of both bounds of M-59. This week, they will continue to place sand and stone as one of the last steps before final pavement can be placed. They have begun working on driveways and have several closed. MDOT understands the frustration and impacts that this may be having on local businesses, so the contractors are working as hard as possible to minimize that impact.
