Hiding From Grace
“But the LORD God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’ He answered, ‘I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.’” ~Genesis 3:9-10~
It was December. I had invited my best friend over for an afternoon of fun. However, on the way home from church, the clouds rolled in. By the time we made it up to our driveway, it was pouring rain. Rain was not in the plan for the afternoon of fun I wanted. What were two preteen young men supposed to do trapped in a house that was getting the floors worked on? We tried a little bit of this and a little bit of that but found ourselves with a cup of hot chocolate near our woodstove in an intense game of Monopoly.
My younger sister did not want to play Monopoly. She tried to play what many younger siblings like to play: A.O.S, commonly known as Annoy Older Sibling. This particular version was played by her running through the house, and our game, scattering pieces everywhere.
With my last roll, I had purchased a motel on Boardwalk. My friend’s piece was now lined up perfectly on the board…victory was as good as mine! Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my sister peek around the corner. She was coming in for another round of A.O.S. As I reached for the dice, she made her move. She stepped over my arm to continue through our game, and I tripped her. The satisfying flailing of the arms, the slow-motion of her falling, I knew the outcome. I had tripped my sister and saved my game. The sickening sound of her head meeting a concrete step was not in the plan. I instantly knew I had done wrong and wanted to hide.
I don’t think I need to address the guilt that we feel when we sin, but what about the lasting shame and condemnation of that sin? Let’s take a look at how God relates to Adam and Eve after they sin.
God’s grace is throughout the entire Bible; it is not just a New Testament thing. The same God who showed Adam and Eve grace after they sinned, is the same God of grace and mercy when He deals with you and me today.
Notice God seeks out Adam, “Where are you?” God certainly knew where Adam was, but he wants Adam to realize where Adam is. He is allowing Adam and Eve to admit their sin. Even though Adam and Eve initially blamed others, they did end up confessing, “I ate it” (Genesis 3:12-13). Confession is pouring your heart out in prayer to Him, admitting your failure, and then repenting from your sin. Repentance is turning away from sin. It is changing directions, getting back on the right track, and running from the temptation that ensnared you and running towards Christ, who freed you.
Many of us can admit our sins and can ask for forgiveness and repent. We stumble in believing the Lord gives us grace. What is grace? Grace is God providing for a need caused by our sin. Why would a Holy God pay for our sins? Why does God meet my needs created by my own doing? It is because He loves us unconditionally, with a love that is so contrary to our worldly standards. Do you know what is more complicated than understanding His love? It is accepting His love and His grace. I think a lot of us feel this. Like Adam and Eve, we realize we have sinned, and the best we could do is sew fig leaves and try and hide from God.
“The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” (Genesis 3:21).
Grace is receiving from the Lord that which we can never do on our own. When we don’t accept His grace and forgiveness, we are saying, “Your death is not sufficient.” Paul states in Romans 4:25, “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”
When we accept His grace, the cross of Christ cancels our debt against us, for as Paul says in Romans 8:1, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Therefore, let’s put on His garment of grace and get out of these silly-looking fig leaves. “…where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 5:20-21).

Men's Outdoor Prayer Breakfast

Wednesday evenings throughout the summer months, “Dog Days of Summer” is TCF’s ministry for children 4 years old through 5
th
grade. Food is served at 6:35pm in the Pavilion, followed by Soccer skills training, and finishing with a lesson from God’s word. This all happens thanks to the hard work and dedication of volunteers like you! We need cooks, playground supervisors, and crowd control. Training is provided. Whether you can sign up for just one night or all summer long, we need your help!

Celebrate Recovery
Brothers and Sisters,
Praying that this finds you well. In cooperation with CDC officials Celebrate Recovery at Trail is closed for now, but we're holding a meeting by video conference, Tuesdays at 7pm.
I know that all of the local CR general meetings are closed until further notice. Please be encouraged that there are video's and testimonies available at the national Celebrate Recovery Facebook page and some on You Tube. We will post words of encouragement here and hope you will do the same.
Remember to call and or meet with your sponsors and accountability partners during this time. They will need it as much as you do and it's scriptural.

Fall enrollment is open and we are excited to announce the launching of our first Bachelor’s degree – Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies. The Fall 2020 offering of a baccalaureate degree is exciting for three reasons:

Students can now stay in the valley and receive an excellent baccalaureate degree while staying engaged in ministry at their church and our community
Academic Value Increases
The academic value increases for PBC credits– both at the Associate level and the Baccalaureate level. PBC as an institution gains value in the higher education marketplace.
Positive Financial Impact
Students will not have to pay university level tuition and can potentially graduate debt free. Upon successful employment their degree increases their earning potential by approximately 40%.
As you can see, the step into four-year degrees will impact our Southern Oregon region for years to come and incrementally increase with each graduating class. Our philosophy is to add marketable programs/degrees as the needs of our region dictate.
