Read-A-Thon Volunteers Needed!
Read-A-Thon is a school-wide competition that encourages reading while also building community through its buddy reading program. Older homerooms are grouped with younger ones and they compete to see which team can read the most! Our annual Read-A-Thon will kick off on October 6th, and we need your help to prepare the folders for our 530+ HPS kids. There are a variety of tasks that must be completed, and with an hour of your donated time, we can ensure this is another successful HPS event.

PTO Pledge to the Hyde Park School Community Play Yard
The HPS PTO is very proud to announce a pledge of $50,000 towards the Hyde Park School Community Play Yard project!!
“Ever since purchasing the decorative safety fence surrounding the school two years ago, the PTO has focused on funding our budget and meeting the diverse needs of our school with the hopes that any surplus would be put towards replacing our playground equipment. Thanks to the generosity of our HPS families and supportive businesses over the past two years, our fundraising mission was successful and we can with pride make our pledge to this exciting project.
Sincerely,
The HPS PTO Board”

A Note from Mrs. Hughes About Virtual Goggles & a Request for Your Old Phone!
|
|
Parents, we are so excited to be bringing the world of virtual reality to our students this year!!! Virtual Reality is an exciting technology that allows us to take students on amazing adventures while enhancing their understanding of the concepts being taught in the classroom. Imagine being able to travel inside a cell to see the inner workings, or visit the Andes Mountains to see first hand the effects of erosion, or go diving deep into the Pacific Ocean to learn about how whales migrate & feed. There are so many exciting adventures waiting for our students in the world of virtual reality. The devices we will be utilizing are made by Mattell and they are specifically designed for children. Remember those old View-Master toys we had as kids? Well, they've had a major upgrade!!! If you'd like to learn more, please visit their website & learn all about this amazing product.
All we need to make this dream a reality for our kids now is your old smartphones!
If you have any old smartphones lying around collecting dust, we can use them!!!
Thanks for all that you do to support our mission here at Hyde Park School.
- If you would like to donate a phone, please check the list of compatible phones to see if your phone is listed, if not, don't worry, it may still work. We can give it a try & return it if it doesn't fit.
- The phone does not need to be connected to a cell phone service, we will connect to the apps using the CPS wifi services.
- Next, we need phones to be wiped clean of all personal information. Please delete photos, contacts, apps, etc. You can do this easily by returning the phone to factory settings.
- Finally, please remember to include the charger so we can keep phones charged for students use.
Compatible smartphone required (not included) Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Motorola Moto X (2014), Motorola Droid Turbo, Motorola Nexus 6, Huawel Nexus 6P, LG Nexus 5X, LG Nexus 5, LG G4, LG G3, HTC One, Nexus 6, iPhone 6s plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6 plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iOS 8.1 and above.
