2018 GPS Community Read: The Things They Carried
Wednesday, August 22 | 7 pm
Glenbard West High School | 670 Crescent Blvd.
The Glenbard Parent Series has selected the critically acclaimed novel, The Things They Carried as it's 2018 GPS Community-Wide Read. Please join us when we welcome Pulitzer Prize finalist author Tim O'Brien as the kick-off speaker for the 2018-19 year of programming.

Students, parents, and community members are invited to become acquainted with this distinguished piece of American literature that fictionalizes O'Brien's experiences surrounding the Vietnam War. The Things They Carried has become a reading staple for high-school level students across the country and includes aspects of memoir, novel, and short story. Here is a compelling book that displays intense sensitivity and insight into courage and fear. Mr. O'Brien is also the author of the National Book Award winner Going After Cacciato and he was prominently showcased on the 2018 Ken Burns PBS Documentary, The Vietnam War.
