Training teaches response to active shooters
Ray-Pec participates in 5th year of active shooter response training
This year marks the fifth year for all Ray-Pec staff to participate in Active Shooter and Intruder Response Training (ASIRT). The District contracted with Strategos International of Grandview to train staff about preventing and responding to a situation involving a violent intruder.  The training, which occurred at schools across the District, included both a lecture session and simulated drills.

The training teaches staff strategies for responding to intruders armed with weapons, or even a bad attitude.

"The practice scenarios provide staff with information and strategies for handling intruders in their own workplace," Dr. Monsees said. "We believe we will all benefit from this training - a training that we hope we never have to implement."
School Resource Officers, security staff, and drills
District's approach to safety and security is multi-faceted
Ongoing safety measures include the following:
  • Three School Resource Officers serve the District through agreements with the City of Peculiar and the City of Raymore.
  • While primarily stationed on the main campus and at Ray-Pec East Middle School, officers are available to respond to all schools within their jurisdiction and assist each other through mutual aid agreements.
  • The District employs staff to provide additional security at Ray-Pec High School, Ray-Pec South Middle School, and Ray-Pec East Middle School during the day and district-wide at night.
  • A School Security Task Force, including District leaders and representatives from the Cass County Sheriff's Office, Peculiar Police Department, Raymore Police Department, and Missouri State Highway Patrol, meets monthly to discuss safety issues.
  • A newly formed Board of Education Safety and Security Committee will analyze the District's needs in this area.
  • Crisis plans, procedures, and safety drills are designed and rehearsed to ensure the safety of students, staff and visitors in the event of a fire, tornado, utility failure, disaster, or violent intruder.
Report safety, bullying or self-harm concerns
Ray-Pec offers online tip reporting for 5th year
The 2018-2019 school year marks the 5th year for the District to use Quick Tip, an online method of reporting a school safety or bullying issue, or concern about a student engaging in self-harm. Users may click on the Quick Tip link  and complete the information requested.

Tip reporters may enter personal contact information or remain anonymous. The Quick Tip link is posted on the District web site home page. Of course, concerns can be reported directly to district staff members as they arise.
District implements further security upgrades
Improvement projects
Each school in the District features a secured vestibule main entrance, which requires visitors to identify themselves before a staff member unlocks the interior doors for entrance.

The District this year has completed a variety of projects to enhance and support ongoing safety improvement efforts. Some of those projects include:
  • Additional surveillance cameras at four schools
  • Upgrades to access control systems (pictured)
  • Additional interior security doors at Bridle Ridge Elementary School
  • Updated fire alarm systems at multiple locations
  • Installation of a new intercom system at Raymore Elementary School
"These projects are designed to provide another layer of school security to our existing efforts," said Dr. Bryan Pettengill, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services. These facility upgrades represent one component of our overall school safety plan."
Watch for student walkers, bikes, and bus traffic
With the start of school, t he District encourages all to follow safe driving habits.

Please watch for students walking or riding bikes and scooters to and from school.

Please watch driving speed in school zones and yield to buses as they load and unload students.  The 2018-2019 bus routes are posted on the District website.
