Dear Friends,
If you are planning on attending the memorial service for Jack on August 9th, please be aware of parking problems -there will be a shuttle to the church and back for you if you park in the Nickerson Funeral Home parking lot on Crowell Road as well as one from the Old Eldridge Garage parking lot on Main Street. There is parking behind the Community Center on Main Street and the Masonic Lodge parking lot on Old Harbor Road, both short walking distance from the church , and in the public parking lot behind the buildings across the street from the church.
The church is not very large and not knowing how many people will attend the service, we suggest getting there early.
Please pass this along to anyone you know who may be coming.
Many thanks,
Debbie Swenson

A Service of Worship and Thanksgiving
for the Life of  RonFollett
Reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall

Ronald A. Follett, 85, passed away in Chatham, Mass., on May 27 after a brief illness. He was born August 18, 1932, in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of Henry and Marjorie Follett. After earning a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Rhode Island, he married Anne Fletcher of Warwick, Rhode Island. They lived briefly in Florida and Washington, D.C., before settling outside of Boston. Ron was an expert at quality assurance and spent most of his career in senior management roles for small high-tech firms in the Boston area. He retired in 1996, and he and Anne moved to the Cape.

Ron was an avid sailor and spent countless hours on Narragansett Bay and Nantucket Sound. He also loved to sing, and was a member of several church choirs and barbershop quartets. He and Anne spent much of their retirement traveling throughout the U.S. and around the world, often accompanied by their children, grandchildren and friends. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix with a roll of duct tape and a couple of zip ties, and he rarely let the facts get in the way of a good story. Above all, he dearly loved his family and his friends, who will miss him greatly.

Ron is predeceased by his parents and by his brother Vernon Follett. In addition to Anne, his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his brother Allan Follett and his wife, Elaine, and his children: David Follett and his wife, Pam; Scott Follett and his wife, Nancy; and Robert Follett and his wife, Susan. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Alan Fletcher and his wife, Jean, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and countless nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ron Follett Music Fund at First Congregational Church.

The Safe Church Committee has been meeting regularly the past few months. They have recently developed a Mission Statement:

" As a Christian community of faith, the First Congregational Church aspires to be a safe and nurturing place where people of all ages can deepen their relationship with God. Our goal is to promote a healthy environment for our church members, visitors, children, youth, staff and the community who participate in our programs and use our facilities. Our Safe Church Committee is committed to being proactive in reviewing the protocols and policies, managing reports and plans, and addressing safety concerns."

AED training
(automated external defibrillator)

You may have noticed the AED case on the wall by the elevator outside the sanctuary and been curious about how this life saving device works.
What should you do should the need arise?

With simple audio and visual commands, these devices are designed to be simple to use for the layperson. The use of AEDs is taught in many  first aid and CPR classes. When a person is suffering from a heart attack, the AED is able to treat them through  defibrillation, the application of electricity which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

Learn how to save a life
We invite you to participate in AED training.
with Sergeant William Massey of the Chatham Fire Dept.

Stephen Minister Training
We are preparing now to train additional Stephen Ministers to provide quality
one-to-one Christian care for those in our midst who are facing challenges in their lives. This is a ministry that is offered to members of our church community as well as to those who are in the greater community. The Stephen Ministers will provide emotional and spiritual care to those who are in a crisis situation or in a difficult transition in their lives: possibly the loss of a loved one, job challenges, becoming new parents, parents of an ill child, caregivers for spouse or parent, living with divorce or separation, chronic illness, aging, or adjusting to relocation or a new job.
There are some among us who have the gifts and talents to be a part of this ministry. Those who have a compassionate hearts, who long to serve others who are in need, those who have the ability to listen well, to care, to pray , to honor confidentiality, to offer support and encourage others. If you have these gifts and interests, please consider the possibility of training to become a Stephen Minister in our congregation. We plan to start a new training class in mid-September. We will need a commitment by September 12th, so please take this time to contemplate and pray about your decision. Please contact our Stephen Ministry leaders if you have questions: Anita Nicoll at 508-237-5204 or Kent Bonney 678-983-9199.

Stephen Ministry informational meeting in the church parlor immediately after worship Sunday, August 19th

Those who would like to know more, please join Kent and Anita in the parlor after worship. Some of our current Stephen Ministers will be with us to share their experiences and to help answer any questions.

Our Knitters need Donations for "Street Reach"
Read all about it below...

Our very active Monday Knitting Group has been working all Summer knitting up warm hats, scarves, etc. In September, they will bring their goods to Hyannis for the The Cape Cod Council of Churches "Street Reach" program.

They are asking for donations of small soaps, toothbrushes and toothpaste (travel size) to include with the knitted products that the youth will distribute to the needy.

Our own J2A students have been active in this  program that gives our youth  a chance to interact with those who have or are still dealing with being homeless.  They hear firsthand how each life's path may lead to unexpected circumstances and how a community of faith and love can change lives.

There is a box by the info station in the vestry to put your donations. If instead you would like to give a cash donation to purchase these products, please mail or bring it to the office or give it to Margaret Eldredge on Sunday.

Alyssa and Kaitlyn Lyons and Spencer Rushnak, this years confirmands, participate in Street Reach in Hyannis
