Training
MECC Training: Are you making every contact count?
Limited places for this FREE training. Please book as soon possible to confirm your place!

Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is about supporting people to make the most of every opportunity they have with the millions of people they come into contact with every day.

Everyone who interacts with the public is able to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of the population by encouraging and supporting individuals to change behaviours that may be damaging to their health. Telling people what to do is not the most effective way to help them change.

MECC is a skills-based training opportunity that encourages a different way of working and interacting to address their health and wellbeing.

Training includes...
  • Two half day sessions where you will improve your skills and confidence in delivering very brief interventions to encourage long term behaviour change.
  • You will have the opportunity to reflect on your practice and how you can make a difference every day.
  • You must complete the MECC e-learning between the two sessions.
Training outcomes...
  • Improved confidence in delivering very brief interventions.
  • Better awareness of how and when to use opportunities to talk to people about their health and wellbeing.
  • Be able to use effective language to get people thinking about their choices and support a behaviour change plan.

Connect 5 Training

Tues 16th October 12 - 5pm, at Futures Hub, Bath City College.

The Connect 5 Programme is an accessible, evidenced based training that is relevant to the whole of the public facing workforce. It provides participants with skills and competencies that build confidence in having conversations about mental health and wellbeing. This is s ession 1 of 3.

It presents tools to empower others to take proactive steps to build resilience and look after themselves. Connect 5 takes the position that we don't need to be mental health specialists to support those who are experiencing emotional and mental health problems.

What will it cover?
Develop your core understanding of mental health, mental wellbeing and how to signpost to local services and resources that will enable individuals to help themselves.

Who is it for:
This session is aimed at volunteers and artists and anyone with an interest in improving mental wellbeing; anyone whose role involves interaction with the public; anyone who has the opportunity to give brief wellbeing advice.

The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health and courses are delivered by a range of local accredited trainers. It is a modular course with up to 3 sessions available, how many sessions you cover will depend on your role.

Connect 5 complements other training including Making Every Contact Count (MECC)

YMCA Artist Opportunity

Clevedon YMCA are looking for artists to run creative workshops in the autumn terms at their youth work sessions. The funding is for an hour's workshop a week and includes funding to pay for fees and materials.  More details below:

The session can be any day Mon-Fri.  We run an After-School Cafe 3.30 to 5, so it would be an hour within that.   We have a budget of £100 a session, which we would like to include materials, although as we generally spend money on stuff anyway if the materials came to more than that we could pay more subject to receipts/ invoice.

The theme is Fruit of the Spirit.  Although the YMCA is a Christian organisation, we run all of our activities without any religious content, so although to me this sounds like subterfuge for missionary work, the aim is to build on the positive qualities and to look at positive human attributes rather than focusing on the negative issues that often seem to be associated with young people. The YMCA would like a young person to be involved in running the workshops so that they can learn more about how this is done.

The project would run for 12 sessions, starting in September. The sessions in the term leading up to Christmas will focus on creating a seasonal event for a group such as the residential home that we have links with.  Food may be the central theme.  We have an additional budget for this event to pay for what we need to create a fun event just before Christmas.
