Beth Smith
Hi, my name is Beth Smith and I am the new Registry Services Representative at the Arabian Horse Association. I was raised in a city about 30 minutes north of Seattle, Wa. Horses have always been a passion of mine, and I grew up riding and showing in 4-H and at Dressage shows. Although I've tried every discipline, Dressage has always been my favorite.
I came to Colorado to study at Colorado State University's Equine Sciences program, and have fallen in love with the state. During my time at CSU I participated in the Quarter Horse Judging Team, which allowed me great opportunities to travel the country, network and compete in collegiate judging contests. Now, a few weekends out of the year, I judge local Open shows with the skills and knowledge learned. In addition, I participated in Equine Science Stewards, which is a group that helps to promote the program within the school and in the industry as well. My time at CSU was unforgettable, and I will always be a proud Ram!
In my free time I ride a rescue off the track, a Thoroughbred named Jack. He's a big, lazy sweetheart and I am excited to continue working with him. I also enjoy powerlifting training, and hope to participate in my first meet next year. Although most of my family is in Washington, I love spending the holidays with them, and I have many great friends here in Colorado. I'm excited to continue to help and get to know the members of AHA!

New Racing Partnership Offers Perfect Start for Newcomers
Former Thoroughbred jockey and professional racing manager Amanda Roxborough has fallen in love with Arabian racing over the last several years, and is now heading up an Arabian racing syndicate called Goldensands Racing that offers a one-year lease on three racehorses... who are on a serious winning streak that is the talk of the racing industry right now (pictured: Madjikman, one of the graded-stakes winning horses in the Goldesands Racing partnership). The deadline for nominations for the
Club Excellence Award is August 15. Please mail, email, or scan your nominations directly to
[email protected]. This is a fantastic opportunity for your club to possibly win $500, or more, in prize money, and be recognized for your outstanding efforts throughout the year.
The Volunteer Service Award Program recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond in order to promote the breed, club, and association by volunteering time, expertise or resources. There are three different levels of the
Volunteer Service Awards: Club Level, Regional Level and National Level.
Nominations for the Volunteer Service Awards for the Club Level Award are submitted directly to AHA and are due by
September 15. Nominations for the Regional Level Award should be submitted to your Regional Director by
August 31.

The Anglo-Arabian Representing U.S. Eventing This Year at WEG
This year, the U.S. Eventing team will be represented by five riders and their horses, including an Anglo-Arabian.
Lauren Kieffer and her horse, Vermiculus "Bug", were named a part of the U.S. Eventing Team for the 2018 World Equestrian Games at the
Tryon International Equestrian Center
in Mill Spring, N.C.
Bug is the only part Arabian on the Eventing team this year.

She says riding "just stuck" after she received riding lessons from her parents as a gift at six years old. She got her first horse, Snooze Alarm "Snooze", at 11 years old from her trainer.
"Who would have thought he'd take me all the way to my first four star," Kieffer said.
Little did she know that she would later on be contacted by the breeder of Snooze about a horse she would end up taking to the 2018 World Equestrian Games. She purchased Bug as a feral three-year-old.
Bug is a 2007 Anglo-Arabian gelding owned by Jacqueline Mars. Some of his recent
accomplishments
include:
- 3rd Place, Maryland CIC2* (2018)
- 5th Place, Land Rover Kentucky CCI4* (2018)
- 7th Place, Ocala Jockey Club CIC3* (2017)
- 3rd Place, Chattahoochee Hills CIC3* (2017)
"Bug is just a cool dude, he's happy doing his thing, he doesn't fuss," Kieffer said about her horse. "The Anglo-Arab has the grit, they have the endurance and the drive, got to love a horse that wants it just as much as you do."

She says it's an honor to have the opportunity to represent her country and sport on one of the highest international stages.
"There are a lot of nerves and pressure and excitement that go along with it, but I have a great village at home of grooms, owners, vets and farriers that all help keep everything running as smoothly as possible."
Kieffer said in preparation for WEG the team has a mandatory outing at Bromont-a three-day CIC event held in Bromont, Quebec-an event she says they are lucky to have near them.
"Being a part of any U.S./Nations cup team is really special. I've been lucky enough to be on teams with them already and there is a good sense of camaraderie," Kieffer said.
She says she would love for the U.S. Eventing team to show off their skill and horses during WEG, and hopefully, bring home a medal.
"We have very strong horses going for the US and some very experienced riders; a medal would be the absolute pinnacle," Kieffer said. "I just want my horse, Bug, to be feeling his finest going into it and to give him the best rides in every phase that I can."
