Read-A-Thon Volunteers Needed!

Read-A-Thon is a school-wide competition that encourages reading while also building community through its buddy reading program. Older homerooms are grouped with younger ones and they compete to see which team can read the most! Our annual Read-A-Thon will kick off on October 6th, and we need your help to prepare the folders for our 530+ HPS kids. There are a variety of tasks that must be completed, and with an hour of your donated time, we can ensure this is another successful HPS event.

Volunteers Needed to Bring Snacks for Teacher Conferences on 9/21
Teacher conferences are being held on 9/21 and we’d like to show our appreciation by providing light snacks to keep them going during the late hours. PTO will cater a lunch for the staff, but we’re asking for donations of food items to keep in the teachers' lounge throughout the day. These are just suggestions; please indicate in the comment section if you’d like to bring in additional items. Food can be brought to the teachers' lounge or to the office in the morning of 9/21. If you are a car rider, you can pass it off to a staff member at drop-off. Sign up below! Thank you!

Help with Picture Day
The HPS office has made a request for parent volunteers to help with Picture Day! Volunteering includes simple tasks like handing out name cards, helping with the appearance of the child before his/her picture gets taken, and, most importantly, keeping kids smiling while in line. :) Please sign up if you can fulfill a shift.

Fundraising Programs
Link your Remke Card to HPS!
Hopefully you linked your Kroger card to the HPS PTO in the last week or two. Now it's time to link your Remke's card! It's quick, it's easy, and it's raising money for HPS! Thank you!
  • Go to www.remkes.com
  • Go to "My Account" from the Quick Links at the bottom of the page (or create an account if you don't have one already, entering your Remke card number and pertinent personal info).
  • In the drop-down menu labeled "Caring Neighbor", select "Hyde Park School PTO".
  • Click "Update".
Box Tops
Did you know that Box Tops raise over $1000 for HPS each year? These may seem like pesky little cardboard pieces and one “extra thing to do”, but they truly add up! So, please keep collecting; the PTO is super appreciative! Each teacher has a box in their room where students can place their collection. Thank you!

Ms. Fischer - In Search of a Room Coordinator!
ISO Parent with a flair for party planning and a the ability to use Sign Up Genius.
Even though we are on the third floor and are growing up, we still need some TLC. We love learning about cultural traditions and have a commitment to community service. We prefer healthy, nut-free snacks, but do enjoy a treat every once in a while. Our favorite holidays are Day of the Dead and Valentine's Day. We love ending our year with a low-key walk to the Withrow Playground, doughnuts and a movie. If we sound like your kind of classroom, please contact us at 363-2831.
A Note from Mrs. Hughes About Virtual Goggles & a Request for Your Old Phone!
Parents, we are so excited to be bringing the world of virtual reality to our students this year!!! Virtual Reality is an exciting technology that allows us to take students on amazing adventures while enhancing their understanding of the concepts being taught in the classroom. Imagine being able to travel inside a cell to see the inner workings, or visit the Andes Mountains to see first hand the effects of erosion, or go diving deep into the Pacific Ocean to learn about how whales migrate & feed. There are so many exciting adventures waiting for our students in the world of virtual reality. The devices we will be utilizing are made by Mattell and they are specifically designed for children. Remember those old View-Master toys we had as kids? Well, they've had a major upgrade!!! If you'd like to learn more, please visit their website & learn all about this amazing product.

All we need to make this dream a reality for our kids now is your old smartphones! If you have any old smartphones lying around collecting dust, we can use them!!! Thanks for all that you do to support our mission here at Hyde Park School.
  1. If you would like to donate a phone, please check the list of compatible phones to see if your phone is listed, if not, don't worry, it may still work. We can give it a try & return it if it doesn't fit.
  2. The phone does not need to be connected to a cell phone service, we will connect to the apps using the CPS wifi services.
  3. Next, we need phones to be wiped clean of all personal information. Please delete photos, contacts, apps, etc. You can do this easily by returning the phone to factory settings.
  4. Finally, please remember to include the charger so we can keep phones charged for students use.
