Chamber Connection
October 2019
Hello chamber!

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a year since our public launch! To celebrate our birthday we brought together members and partners for a pop-up event and reflected on the work that we’ve done together since September 2018. We’d like to show you, too! Check out this video to see all we've achieved since our launch.

CHAMBER RECOGNITION

BOSTON BUSINESS JOURNAL
For the second year running, our chamber's executive director Grace Moreno was named one of Boston’s 50 most influential people by Boston Business Journal. See the complete list here.

GET KONNECTED! & BAY WINDOWS
Grace, as well as board members Stephen Chan of The Boston Foundation and Wilnelia Rivera of Rivera Consulting, were named among Boston’s 25 most influential LGBTQ+ people of color by Get Konnected! and Bay Windows.

EL MUNDO
Grace was also seated at the Head Table of this year's El Mundo’s Hispanic Heritage Month Breakfast alongside Boston's most prominent figures such as Governor Baker, Mayor Walsh, and District Attorney Rollins. In her speech, Grace highlighted her intersectional Latina identity and praised the power of her community.

Congratulations to all — we are so proud of your achievements and visibility on behalf of our chamber!
NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY

It takes courage to be out at work in the face of potential discrimination from employers, colleagues, and clients. Leading by example, sharing our stories, and supporting others in their journey becomes ever more important. Our chamber marked National Coming Out Day by participating in discussions about what it means to be out at work.

TAKEDA
Grace Moreno attended Takeda’s Coming Out at Work panel, where speakers addressed the advancements that have been made in workplace LGBTQ+ inclusivity while also pointing to the work that still needs to be done.
UMASS AMHERST
Grace sat on the Out & Proud Professionals panel hosted by the UMass Amherst Stonewall Center and held at the Isenberg School of Management’s Innovation Hub. Grace, along with other LGBTQ+ executives, spoke about their experiences being out in the workplace and the example they try to set for others.
EVENT RECAP

Our chamber maintains a busy schedule of attending events, meetings, and panels around the state. Our goal is well defined: we want to cultivate inclusive relationships to drive economic impact, and that necessitates high levels of visibility and participation in our community. Here are just some of the places we've appeared in the last few weeks:

SHE+ GEEKS OUT SUMMIT
She+ Geeks Out held its inaugural summit, with a focus on empowering and supporting women+ in the workplace and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our chamber was a community partner of this event and we were grateful to connect with so many of you who attended!

LGBTQING A CITY, WORCESTER
Chamber representatives visited Worcester Historical Museum for LGBTQing a City, a community conversation about furthering support for the LGBTQ community in Worcester. We are proud to be partnering with local Worcester businesses to support the city’s burgeoning LGBTQ culture.

PIOW BREAKFAST SERIES
We supported Pride In Our Workplace (PIOW) in the preparation of their September Breakfast Series Panel titled Learning from Leadership, which was held at PTC. The collaboration was just another step in deepening our rewarding partnership with PIOW.
T-TIME SALON EXPERIENCE

Earlier this month, Lou Rod Cueva, chamber founding member and owner of MLR, created a pop-up salon experience for non-binary and transgender people in Boston. Lou used his industry connections to bring together gender affirming stylists to host a free, welcoming, and inclusive salon experience for this segment of our community. We’re incredibly proud to have partnered with Lou around this event and to witness what he is accomplishing.

Look for Lou as he brings T-Time to a brick and mortar location during Pride 2020, and read more about the event at Dapper Confidential.
