June, 2018 was a tough month for local discount variety stories, as this incident from the CrimeStoppers case files reveals.
During the month 10 separate Dollar General and Family Dollar Stores were robbed at gunpoint. Although there was fairly clear video footage, the gunman's identify was unknown to authorities.
But on the 28
th
of the month CrimeStoppers got a call on its tips line. The person reported that a Legregory Jeffreys was responsible for the robberies. The tipster added that Jeffreys was about to leave town and was at the Greyhouse Bus Station awaiting to board a bus.
After a quick study of a surveillance video, police agreed that Jeffreys was the suspect they wanted. Officers rushed to the bus station. They located and arrested him before he could flee the city. The $220 in cash he carried was seized.
Two charges of aggravated robberies were soon posted. Jeffreys may be indicted on several more of the armed robberies before the ongoing investigation is completed.
The tipster who supplied information that led to the arrest was awarded $900 for helping solve multiple felonies.
