CHICAGO MUSEUMS AIM TO CULTIVATE CURATORS OF COLOR
Madeleine Grynsztejn, Pritzker Director, Museum of Contemporary Art, was quoted in a New York Times article about the growing number of museums that are addressing diversity with new urgency.
 
The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago ( Sarah Guernsey and Zoe Ryan) are  among the list of museums that are hiring more minority staff members, offering paid internships and teaming with foundations and universities that fund curatorial jobs, to ensure that the next generation of leaders of color enter the pipeline.
 
"Who you choose in organizing the program has an impact," said Madeleine Grynsztejn. "You are responsible for correcting a canon." Read more...
TINA TCHEN AS A PANELIST AT "#METOO, TIME'S UP-SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE"
Tina Tchen, Partner, Buckley Sandler LLP, spoke on a panel at the "#MeToo, Time's Up - Sexual Harassment in the Workplace" forum. Although the program's subtitle was sexual harassment in the workplace, Tina said the focus solely on that issue was misplaced. "What we're really talking about is building workplace cultures that are diverse and truly inclusive. Safe spaces, respectful places. We need to change the way workplaces operate," said Tina Tchen. ADLER PLANETARIUM HIGHLIGHTED IN STORY ABOUT ITS MARS VIEWING PARTY
A Mars viewing party was hosted at the Adler Planetarium (Michelle Larson) on August 6th. Mars was only 36 million miles away that night, compared to its usual 140 million miles. This is the closest Mars has been to Earth since 2003. This story highlights the event, but also the beautiful experience the author had that night. Read more...

STUDIO GANG CONSTRUCTS ITS FIRST NEW YORK CITY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING
Studio Gang ( Jeanne Gang) is constructing its first New York City residential building at 11 Hoyt in Brooklyn. The building will be 51-stories once completed, resulting in the creation of 481 condominiums and 23,250 square feet for commercial retail. Completion is expected by 2020. Read more...

WGN NEWS DIRECTOR JENNIFER LYONS RESIGNS 'AT TOP OF HER GAME'
Jennifer Lyons, a much loved and respected leader who guided Chicago's busiest television news operation to the top of the ratings, announced her resignation as news director of Tribune Broadcasting  WGN-Channel 9 and  CLTV.

Jennifer said she has accepted a new position as Vice President of Communications and External Relations for Catholic Extension, a Chicago-based fundraising organization that supports and strengthens poor mission dioceses nationwide. No date has been set for her departure from WGN.

"I have decided to resign as news director of the most magnificent local news operation in the country," Jennifer Lyons told staffers in an email. "It has been a privilege to work alongside you, leading you, laughing with you and sometimes crying with you. It has been fun being a part of your lives. You are a remarkable team." Read more...

DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY EMBRACES 'EL FUTURO'
Dominican University (Donna Carroll recently  held "El Futuro is Here," a conference that focused on Hispanics and the challenges and opportunities the Roman Catholic Church in this country is facing in its attempt to minister to this demographic.

University President Donna Carroll noted that 40 percent of Dominican's freshman class this year identifies as Hispanic and expressed what she believes to be the importance and urgency of the El Futuro conference.

LOIS A. SCOTT ATTENDS FORUM IN JERUSALEM 
Lois A. Scott was a guest of the Milken Institute and the Jerusalem Institute for a forum held in Jerusalem to discuss the finances of the city of Jerusalem. Representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Interior Ministry, Ministry of Jerusalem, Mayor Barkat and others were part of the gathering.

MARY MEG MCCARTHY PRESENTS A RESOLUTION AT THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION
The American Bar Association House of Delegates unanimously passed a resolution updating the standards of care for how the U.S. government treats children who come to the United States alone. "Children, no matter where they are from, deserve to be treated as children. Through these [2018] standards, we will help ensure that children are treated with respect, dignity and compassion and that their human rights are fully protected," said Mary Meg McCarthy, National Immigrant Justice Center Executive Director and Chair of the ABA Commission on Immigration.
