IAGB Focuses on Four Service Areas
IAGB has reviewed and renewed its Mission Statement, which states: IAGB strives to foster a strong Indian cultural and community presence in the greater Boston area." In order to realize its mission, IAGB has organized itself into four areas of service," explains Director Venu Rao:
- Cultural Activities: Continue our flagship events - India’s Republic Day and India Day celebrations that bring unprecedented visibility to IAGB. In addition, plan and execute two more events every year in the spring and fall to present a variety of local and artistic dimensions, as well as raise funds to support mainstream charitable activities that our Community Services area identifies.
- Connect Beyond Our Boundaries: Connect with local government, such as the Mayor’s, Governor’s and Senators’ offices; and Indian officials (such as the Consul General and the Ambassador). Identify people who are positioned to help create such connections. Host dignitaries and distinguished visitors to the Greater Boston area.
- Community Services: Proactively initiate programs, such as sustainable scholarships, set up a community resource center, create forums for education, senior services, business, etc.
- Appoint Advisory Board: Set up a resource comprised of IAGB past presidents so as to provide continuity to and organization, and offer their expertise and advice to the Executive Committee.

"IDC has undertaken the task of 'discovering' India from its cultural history point of view," says IDC President Dr. Bijoy Misra. "Our goal is to analyze different aspects of past cultures of the region to understand the magnificent achievements of Indian civilization as well as its structural failures through time."
The first phase of IDC's research focused on the Indus Civilization. Read more about the seminar in a Lokvani report here.
IDC's next seminar will be held in January 2017. It will focus on “Indian Society During the Vedic Period.” Email Dr. Misra at misra.bijoy@gmail.com for more information.
