Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School "Shipwrecked and saved by Jesus" started out slow with registration but we are up to about 40 Kidz. More than half of these are preschoolers.....

That's the good news and the bad news.

We need two more people who are willing to give up 4 nights of 2 1/2 hours each for these little guys. I know not everyone is comfortable working with little ones but if that is a gift you are willing to use we need you. We were so surprised to have so many little bittys but so thrilled that we can teach them the joys of loving Jesus.

Feel free to call me at 864-561-2348.

Attention VBS Kitchen/Dinner Volunteers:

We are advised that the first night's dinner will be the spaghetti from Coach House.  Volunteers please come to the PAVILION KITCHEN around 4:00 p.m. Sun. June 24 for set up and preparation work.  Many thanks for your help.  Jackie Donboch

VBS COOKIES!!!!!!

As a tradition, we have been blessed to have Holy Cross members bake cookies for VBS in years past.

Please keep our tradition going.

Cookies can be delivered to the Church Kitchen, marked for VBS, beginning Sunday, June 24.

Please bring cookies in containers that do not need to be returned to you, as it is sometimes difficult to get the containers back to the proper places.  Thank you for your generosity.

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year program from the School of Theology at the University of the South at Sewanee. Over the course of four years, EfM students study the Old Testament, the New Testament, church history, and theology while learning to engage in theological reflection. By examining our own beliefs and our relationship to our culture and the tradition of our Christian faith, we learn what it means to be effective ministers in the world. Coming to terms with the notion that everything we do has potential to manifest the love of God, we discover that ministry happens everywhere we go and in everything we do.

An EfM group consists of six to 12 participants and a trained mentor who meet once a week from September through May. Our group meets on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. Participants commit to one year at a time. The cost for the course is $375 per year, which includes the cost of all materials except a Bible. Please don't let the cost prevent you from joining us as scholarships are available. Continuing education credits are also available for this course.

If you are interested in signing up for the class for 2018-2019, please plan to attend our sign-up session in the parish hall June 24 at 9:30 a.m. to fill out the necessary paperwork. If you have questions, please talk with any of our current Holy Cross group members: Patty Barnes, Barbara Burton, Pam Imbler, Kerry Kelley, Nancy Mathews, Kay McNabb, Sharon Putman, Cheryl Randal, Monica Rodriguez, Peggy Tollison, and Anne Smith. Bobbie Godwin is the mentor and can be reached at 843-287-3760.

Lake Placid Loop is a 0.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Greenville, South Carolina that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail. We will add in a small portion of Mountain Creek Trail and continue to the Outdoor Classroom where we can have a quiet place off trail to celebrate Holy Communion. Total hike is approximately 1.5 miles and is rated EASY. The trail is composed of natural material and relatively smooth but does have some roots and rocks in it. There is a short hill climb and descend at the dam with stairs on the Lake Placid Loop.
We will want to carpool since a PARK PASS is needed for entry.
If you do not have a Park Pass the park fees are as follows: Admission-
$
5 adults; $3.25 SC seniors (age 65 & older);
$3/ child age 6-15;

POWER PACKS

School is out for summer! Thank you to everyone who took the time to pack the bags, deliver to Hickory Tavern, and contribute food and funds during the school year.
We ask that you continue to remember Power PACKs when purchasing groceries over the summer, but please look for an expiration date of no sooner than October 2018 so that food will keep until the next school year. Monetary donations are also accepted and will be held in a designated account until needed. Please make checks payable to Holy Cross and put "Power PACKs" in the memo line.

For more information, please contact Leslie Donahue ( [email protected]),  Jennifer Hellams ( [email protected]) or Linda McAllister ( [email protected]).
