Dear Reader

A reader commended us with the following testimonial: " I love your news. So I am asking if you could bring up the topic on why everything in the supermarkets was raised after Irma and no government officials are doing anything about it when minimum wage is so low for so many years plus no one can survive off their pension."

This immediately reminded us about the press conference wherein Christophe Emanuel as a member of Parliament displayed products he bought at Super U on the French side and compared the prices of these items to those in supermarkets on the Dutch side.

Maybe now that Christhophe Emanuel is back in the parliament benches as an MP after his stint as minister of VROMI, he can now champion this cause again for the small man - and small woman with a small purse and an equally small budget to live off of, especially the seniors and pensioners, by drawing attention to this phenomenon our reader has pointed out in the aforementioned testimonial.

Consumer advocates in the Consumer Coalition and the Consumer Protection Foundation can certainly use an ally in Parliament to champion their cause. In this edition of our newsletter we highlight interviews with co-coordinator Raymond Jessurun and attorney Cor Merx about the role of the Central Bank as it pertains to consumer affairs in the banking and insurance sectors with regards to financial products.

For another cause, we demanded an encore from Hilbert Haar. So he was generous enough to provide us with one more opinion piece entitled " Unpaid Advice to Incoming Government". You can read it now by becoming a patreon of StMaartenNews.com. Or you can wait until next week to read it during the big day for StMaartenNews.com. What that big day is, you will soon find out. Stay tuned. In the meantime, click here to access and unlock this opinion piece on our Patreon page.

Do enjoy reading our newsletter. With your support we will be broadening your reading options soon.
