Dear Fellow Servants of Jesus Christ,
Jim casual 8-2014

Vacation Bible School is going great and touching many lives! Approximately 375 children are enrolled with about 115 volunteers. Seventy-five percent of the children participating are from outside the Saxe Gotha church family, making this is a wonderful outreach event! Praise the Lord!

This year's theme is "Game On!" By using this athletic theme, we are encouraging the kids to gear up, train and "play the game" - live life in his service! God desires that we use the abilities and talents that he has given us to share the love of Christ through our words and actions. Our children are learning:

Day 1: Jesus Cares About Me
Day 2: Jesus Gives M
e Hope
Day 3: Jesus Helps Me Believe
Day 4: Jesus Loves Me

Day 5: Jesus Gives Me Joy
The week's theme verse is: "His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness." (2 Peter 1:3). What a great verse to remind us that God has provided what we need to live in a right relationship with him!

Please keep our VBS in prayer as we close an exciting week. Let's pray that all of the seeds of that gospel that have been planted and watered will be brought to harvest!

In Christ's love,
Pastor Jim

Special Request from Helen Harrison Coker:
I am currently working on my Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. For one of my courses, I must conduct a church-wide survey on the health of our congregation.  The Session has approved for our church to engage in a listening exercise provided by Leadership Transformations, Inc.  From June 1, 2018 to June 22, 2018, we'll be conducting a church-wide survey called the Church Health Assessment Tool (CHATSM).  This web-based survey will allow us to collect valuable feedback from the congregation regarding your views on our church health.  This tool is based on the "10 Traits of Vital Ministry" from the book Becoming a Healthy Church  by Dr. Stephen A. Macchia.  We welcome all congregants [15 years old and up] to participate in the survey.  Please take this opportunity to share your thoughts with us.

To participate in the survey before June 22, 2018:
1.  Get on the internet and go to www.HealthyChurch.net
2.  Click on the button that says "Take the Survey" on the left side of the screen.
3.  Use the following information to log in:
                  Login: SaxeGotha
                  Password: GiveGodJoy

Give us your honest feedback. (The survey takes 20-25 minutes to complete.) If you don't have a computer/internet access, contact Helen Harrison Coker at 359-7770  or at
[email protected],  and we can arrange for you to fill out a paper version of the survey.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you for your help and for your time!
HH
Fall Sermon Series and Small Groups: "We Were Made for Relationships." Starting September 9, we will begin a 6-week study "40 Days of Love" by Rick Warren. We would like to put together a list of small group leaders and locations, much like we did for "40 Days in the Word" a few years ago. Please let Helen Harrison Coker know if you are able to lead a group: [email protected]. There is a leaders guide and video lesson for each week, so all you really need is a location (home, office, school) to host a small group.
Summer Combined Sunday School: (Through July 29) Room 151 MB, 9:45 -10:30 am. Any and all adults are welcome to join us, whether they go to Sunday school on a regular basis or not. We will study Colossians, along with the sermon series. Questions? Contact HH Coker at [email protected] or 359-7770 ext. 40.

Nailbenders  meet at 8:00 a.m. (Second Saturday of the month) at the Lexington Chick-fil-A (5560 Sunset Blvd.) then leave from there to assist individuals in need.  Everyone is welcome to help! Contact Keith Hall with questions:  [email protected] .
Stephen Ministry  is our congregation's one-to-one care giving ministry. These connections are confidential and matched up by gender. God works through Stephen Ministers to plant a seed of hope and healing in a person whose life seems barren and forlorn because of crisis or tragedy.  What do Stephen Ministers do?  These individuals listen to people in need, explore feelings, pray, share Christ's love, maintain confidentiality, and attend to the care-giving process, while leaving the results to God.  Stephen Ministers have big hearts.  If you are feeling unloved or need a friend, contact  Carol Perrin  at (803)917-6690 , the referral coordinator. Please know that your identity and requests are kept confidential.
Volunteers Needed for The Bereavement Ministry:
If you enjoy cooking, baking or serving others, please prayerfully consider volunteering to help with the Bereavement Ministry. We provide light food for receptions following funerals for Saxe Gotha members or a meal for family members on the day of a funeral. This could not happen without help from Saxe Gotha members. If you think you may be interested in helping with this much needed Ministry please call Vicki Williamson at 803-957-5068 for more information.
Prayer Shawl Ministry group will not meet during June, July and August.  They will gather again on Thursday, September 6.  Meets on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month in the MB, Room 154  (10:00-11:30 am).  Questions?  Please call Polly Askew at 803-359-7263.
