Weekly Director Letter 01/15/2021
Dear Parents,

This week was an exciting one.  I enjoyed spending a day in the garden with our Rainbow, VPK, Gold, and Silver Door classes.  Students had a chance to see the tomato plants we planted months back and count all of the green tomatoes that are coming in.  In weeks to come, they will watch them turn red and also measure the plants and perform other field studies.  While in the garden, each class planted vegetables in their assigned beds.  We are going to have a contest to see which bed is the best as the classes tend to their plot and perhaps decorate them.  They planted green, yellow, and red peppers, cabbage, lettuce, and broccoli.  I put a video on Facebook this week showing a walkthrough followed by photos of each class.
This week also marked the week that we fully reopened our Science Lab.  We have been doing a phasing in, but now that we are settled into our new COVID way of life, we scheduled the lab visits in such a way that one class a day could go in and we could sanitize properly for the next day.  At this time only VPK, K, and First grade will be going into the lab.  Little by little we are establishing a new normal.
Finally, if your child will be 4 by September 1st, you will qualify for VPK next year.  Check your Brightwheel messages.  Wanda sent you information on getting the certificate.  You can go to www.VPK help.org for more information.  Also, we have had several families sign up for Kindergarten, First, and Second grade for the next school year.  We will only have one class of each grade so if you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible.  We have had inquiries for kids not currently enrolled.  We will wait until next week to open enrollment to the general public.

We will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day.  I hope you enjoy some time with your families.
