Town of Orangetown
Your weekly news and updates
Dear Residents -

We certainly had some start to our week. With over 24" of snow in parts of Orangetown, we all had way too much snow to deal with. Special thanks to Superintendent Jim Dean and the entire Orangetown Highway Department for their long, hard hours of work – starting Sunday with pre-treating the roads and going straight through today, as they continued to remove snow from our business districts and sidewalks.

While on the subject of snow and as a friendly reminder, when you are clearing snow from your driveway, please do not push the snow into the street. Throwing or plowing snow into the road can create a patch of snow and ice that freezes over, causing a hazardous condition. The Highway Department has more information about winter maintenance at https://www.orangetown.com/winter-maintenance/

On a more serious note, the Orangetown Police Department is warning residents that Identity Theft is on the rise, especially unemployment insurance fraud. There are steps you can take to try to prevent becoming a victim, such as creating difficult passwords, using different passwords for each account, and not using personal information in your passwords. Should you become a victim of identity theft, you should immediately report it to the Police and the Federal Trade Commission https://www.identitytheft.gov/, the federal government’s one-stop resource for identity theft victims.

Just a reminder that Assemblyman Mike Lawler and I will be hosting a drive-through Winter Coat Drive tomorrow at Town Hall from 11 am and 2 pm. We will be collecting new and gently used coats. So please go check out your closets and drop us any outerwear that you no longer need or wear and we will make it our job to find it a new home.

Respectfully,
Teresa M. Kenny

Operation Love Our Senior Citizens
Valentine’s Day is a day when we show love to those who mean the most to us. From our significant others to our best friends, school friends to colleagues, family members near and far, this day has turned into a yearly reminder to let the people we love hear it.

This year, nearly a full year of “pausing in place,” the Town of Orangetown is asking you to join us in sending cards to those who could use an extra smile. We are talking about our elders, a group of well-seasoned, incredible humans who are sometimes forgotten.

Welcome to OPERATION LOVE OUR SENIOR CITIZENS.

The Town will be collecting Valentine’s Day cards through Tuesday, February 9, 2021, for our local seniors to be distributed later that week.

Buy a card or better yet, make a card for a senior citizen, bring it to Town Hall and drop it in the box marked “Operation Love Our Senior Citizens.”

You’ll be very happy you did.

Looking to keep the kids entertained on the next snow day? See if they can come up with the 104 different words from "Television."

That should keep them busy for awhile.
