Your Chamber Board met virtually on Tuesday, and among other things decided to extend the six month’s FREE MEMBERSHIP offer until 30
th
September. This will be updated on the website shortly. We also received a very useful update from Emma Day, Head of Prosperity at MVDC, on a whole variety of topics. There are still businesses that have not claimed either the £10,000 or £25,000 Business grants available, and undrawn grants may well be added to the Discretionary Grant Fund - details of eligibility for this are still to be released.
Yesterday afternoon was very busy with our ‘Virtual Tea’ event in our Restart Your Business series: HR Considerations, led by Mara Thorne from
M Thorne HR
and Jackie Adams from
Jackie Adams Consulting
. Their presentation was comprehensive and took the audience through a whole series of thought and work processes in terms of both planning the ‘How’ of work restarting or continuing, and also considerations needed to ensure employees were treated fairly in whatever becomes the ‘norm’ going forward. The video is available on the Chamber’s
YouTube
channel.
This was followed in the evening by our second ‘Not the Pub Quiz’, which on this occasion was won by Bob Knight of Compass FRI who will shortly receive a £20 Amazon Gift voucher, and who will create the fourth edition of the Quiz! Sophie Carr of Bays Consulting, who won the first Quiz, has already created the next one - to be run on Wednesday 1
st
July 6.45pm for 7pm.
Some of yesterday’s registered attendees had trouble joining the events via the browser link attached to the Eventbrite listing. It is often easier to use the Zoom app: go to ‘join meeting’, enter the meeting ID and then the password when this is asked for. These instructions will be incorporated in our joining details in the future.
MVDC has been contacting all retail businesses and others occupying shop fronts with a simple survey asking when they intend to reopen and about their preparations for doing so. If you have not received an email, please do complete the survey
here
. Preparations are well underway for our town and village centres to reopen more fully, taking into account safe distancing and other precautions. For those looking for signage, Chamber Member
Kall Kwik Leatherhead
has developed a wide range in a number of colourways. Our video of the Risk Assessment and Working Safely During Covid-19 session featured in last week’s newsletter is still available on our
YouTube
channel.
Here is a link to the
MVDC website
where they have listed everything you could want or need in one place. The different headings lead to the relevant sections of the advice contained on the Gov.uk website. This link is also on the
Home Page
of our website.
Our next ‘Virtual Coffee’ Restart Your Business session is on Digital Signing, on Wednesday 10
th
June 9.45 for 10.00am. Wills, lasting powers of attorney, leases, transfers, mortgages, oaths and statements of truth. Why do some legal documents need to be signed in a special way? What is valid execution? How many witnesses do you need and who can they be? What is Mercury signing? A brief look at the different rules that apply, and how the pandemic is driving change. Chamber Member
Julie West Solicitors
founder and property solicitor Julie West and private client solicitor Emma West will take us through the essentials.
A couple of reminders too: the list of Members who are
open for business
, displayed on our website, is still much shorter than the reality - so please email
Kerry-Anne Kitson
with details for this. We have re-launched our page
promoting offers
by our Members, so if you have an offer out there or wish to promote something special please do send details to
Kerry-Anne
.
Finally, please do promote the benefits of
joining the Chamber
to your business colleagues and customers. If you have a window which needs one of our posters do let us know, and we have flyers as well for anyone in a position to deliver some.
