PTSA NEWS

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello Everyone,

It is so inspiring to be around the parents of incoming 6th graders at the 5th grade BBQ event. One of the proud moments is when 12th grader, Niki Chinamanthur, showed her video of International School that she completed as a Senior Board project. This video will be on our IS website for others to see, Great Job Niki. This video made you proud to have your student attend IS and be a member of this community. One of the themes I heard over and over again from the parents was that they were so appreciative of having the opportunity for their child to attend IS. As parents of IS students in any grade, I encourage you to take the opportunity to appreciate the great education that your student is receiving at IS and know that many graduates from IS have said; “I was really prepared for college”.

Please remember to stop by on the morning of the 19th for our general membership meeting.

Best,
Meribeth Nordloef-Pedersen
ISPTSA President 2017-2018
“Community Creates Success at IS”

LAST ISPTSA MEETING IS 6/19
8:15 - 8:45 AM IN THE LIBRARY

ISPTSA General Membership Meeting
June 19th, 8:15-8:45 AM, location: IS Library.

Show your IS community support first thing in the morning. Come and enjoy coffee and treats as we hold our quick last membership meeting.

We will elect officers for the IS board for next year and approve the preliminary budget so ISPTSA can operate until our next general meeting in Sept. We will also be awarding the Golden Acorn to a deserving IS parent. We need a quorum of members to make this happen.

The Golden Acorn Award is a very prestigious Washington State PTA award that is given out to a volunteer that has shown exemplary and outstanding volunteerism and service to PTA. Honorees that receive this award, have volunteer experience at the local PTA level, in the community, and at the school and/or school district level.

Please plan on attending and welcome our new officers, congratulate our Golden Acorn Awardee and take a treat to start your day just right. Meeting will be over by 8:45 AM. Parking will be available in visitor parking and senior student parking spaces.
MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Thank you to all our IS parents and staff and students that supported us in our membership drive. We hope you see our 100% banner that is up until the last day of school. You will see it again when we reach 100% membership in 2018-2019 school year. We also received a plaque from the state for the 100% membership which is hanging in the front office. Renewal of membership is available after July 1st.

ISPTSA WINS AWARD FOR 100% MEMBERSHIP

Congratulations to the ISPTSA for receiving the award for 100% Membership by the Washington State PTA. We appreciate all of the hard work and effort made by this year's membership chair Joanie Chang!

FINAL DONATIONS FOR THE 2017-2018 YEAR NEEDED

Help us Finish in the Black!

All donations raised as part of this fundraising effort directly pay for 2018-2019 curriculum enhancement, student activities support, and so much more. Due to two events that did not occur this year, our expenses are less than budgeted, but we need an additional donation of $6000 to finish our year in the black.  We are asking for a $50 per person donation to complete our budget and set up our budget for spending right away in Fall of 2018. Two months after school starts, PTSA is already paying $30,000 for curriculum enrichment. All donations are tax deductible and we accept corporate matching. All donations need to be submitted by June 22nd. Click here to donate or cash/check dropped off at the office. Thank you for your financial support of PTSA.

Questions? contact  president@isptsa.org .

BACK TO BUSINESS DAY SCHEDULE, WEDNESDAY 8/15

6th Grade: 8:00 am 9th Grade: 11:00 am
7th Grade: 9:00 am 10th – 12th Grades: 12:00
8th Grade: 10:00 am Ends at 2:00 pm

If you are unable to make these times, please call 425-456-6500 after August 1 st to set up an appointment. Please do not just drop into the office.    We do not mail home packets in the summer. Families are expected to download all the forms and information from our website at www.bsd405.org/international

The website will be updated and ready to go by August 1st. There will not be copies of the forms available at school so please print them out in advance and bring the completed copies with you. Included online will be a document for you to see what the fees are by grade so you will know what to expect. The lines to pay fees can be very long but you can beat the lines by paying on line at https://touchbase.bsd405.org/

Again, please note that you start paying on August 1st. However, if you don’t mind the lines, you may pay in the main office or at the attendance window. We now take credit cards, checks and cash! We can only do one transaction per student so you will need at least one check per student to pay for class fees.

At Back to Business day your student will get their schedule, PE lock, be assigned a locker, receive an ORCA card to ride the Metro Bus (if eligible), have their photo taken, and pay fees.

If you can’t make it to Back to Business Day, we have two mini Back to Business Dates and Times. We ask that you try to make it to one of these options rather than just dropping into the office. You will be able to take care of most things that are available except for getting your photo taken. The photographer will be back at school on Tuesday, Oct. 2nd for picture retakes and for students who were not able to make it on August 15th.

The mini Back to Business Days are:
Tuesday, Aug. 21 from 9-11 am
Wednesday, Aug. 22 from 5-7 pm

Have a great summer!

ISPTSA RECRUITING BOARD POSITIONS

We are very seriously looking for a few more officers to fill our board for the 2018-2019 year. Maybe you served in the PTA when your student was in elementary school. Come on back and serve again. Graduating senior? but a 6-7th grader still at IS, come on back and serve again. There are many of us that have served multiple rolls in various PTA’s over the years. That experience will serve us well BUT we also welcome people who have not served on a PTA board for their inquisitiveness, fresh perspective and willingness to serve. Please see our list of past board of directors on ISPTSA. Many of these folks are still at IS.

The Board serves many functions but in the eyes of the school, it provides funding for academic excellence. Unfortunately, if we do not have a full functioning board for next year, the money cannot be voted on to be given to the school. We have to have a board to fund the school requests. The ISPTSA board completes the circle and the money flows.
Please consider serving in a board position next year. Contact Meribeth Nordloef Pedersen at president@isptsa.org or Ching Guo, president-elect@isptsa.org if you are interested. Here are descriptions of board positions.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK RESULTS

A big thank you to everyone that took the time this last year to answer the question of the week. Many of the questions we asked had results that were of interest to the administration and will help us plan programming for ISPTSA next year. We will end the QW this year and start up again in the Fall. Here is the results of the latest question of the week.

PTSA and your money

How much do you think PTSA contributes to the school financially?

25% of donations collected 0%
50% of donations collected 0%
75% of donations collected 60%
100% of donations collected 40%

Of all the donations received by ISPTSA, over 75% of donations go to fund IS.

Of the 400+ families at IS, how many IS families have donated to the PTSA?
15 families 0%
25 families 0%
50 families 0%
100 families 100%

Of the 400+ families at IS, we have a very generous community of over 100+ families contributing to ISPTSA.

If you donate financially to PTSA, when do you like to submit a donation?

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

Have any Box Tops coupons needing to be dropped off at IS?  Bring in your coupons before June 22 nd. ISPTSA receives a check each year from Box Tops based on the number of coupons submitted and is an income line item in our Budget.
Please send in your donation if you have not contributed this year. Every donation counts in our budget.
