FROM THE DESK OF MRS. TIEZZI
Dear St. Rita Parents,
Welcome to a new school year. It was so great to see you all at our soft opening Monday. The students came in confident, knowing which classroom to report to, and having all their supplies already distributed. Today was a great full day of school despite the heat. We are so fortunate to have a school where all the classrooms are air conditioned. Due to the current heat wave recess and PE class will be held in the classroom for the next few days. Today our students spent time getting to know their classmates, their teachers, and the school rules, policies, and procedures. We ended the day with a school-wide assembly reading and affirming our school mission statement, understanding the expectations of a St. Rita School student and discussing our theme for the year—“Kindness is Contagious”.
I would like to share a few reminders in order for you to assist in making our school year the safest and most productive it can be for our students and teachers. Thank you for your support.
·
The opening bell rings at 8:15. Students must be in class before 8:15 to begin their day. Please be sure your child is on time for school. Morning opening will take place within the classroom.
·
It is important that all students (PreK-8) are in proper uniform including, shirts tucked in, belts, hair color, hair style, hair accessories, and proper footwear. Sneakers with lights are considered a safety hazard in the event of a lock down. Hair accessories such as head bands or bows should be simple and in the school colors of dark green, white, navy blue, black or blackwatch plaid. Parents of a student who are not in compliance will receive a written notification.
·
The hot lunch and before/aftercare portals are open for you to sign up for lunch or before/after care. Please contact Erin Carmody-
ecarmody.stritaschool@gmail.com with questions regarding the lunch program or Betsy Bathrick
–bbathrick.stritaschool@gmail.com or 203-623-3039 with questions regarding the before and aftercare programs.
·
The 2018-2019 Student /Family Handbook is available online on our school website. It is important that all school families read the handbook and sign off on the last page indicating that you have read and reviewed the policies and agree to abide by them. Any changes are indicated in red.
·
Please observe the” No Parking” signs on Gilles Road, Edgemere and Dessa Drive. Your willingness to observe the no parking signs will ensure the safety of our students and school neighbors. Please share this with grandparents and caregivers who pick-up your child at dismissal.
·
The school playground is on private property. It will be locked during the school day to ensure the safety of our students. Beginning next week, it will be open to school families after dismissal until 3:30 at which time it will be available to the aftercare program exclusively. The playground is for students in grades K-5 only and adult supervision is needed for a student to be on the play-scape at any time.
Finally, in order to ensure the safety of your children we have made a change to the pick-up procedure. For students in grades K-5 parents or designated caregivers will be required to sign-out your child with his/her teacher at afternoon dismissal. Those students in grades 6- 8 who have a younger sibling in grade K-5, may be the designated pick-up person with the written permission of the parents. Please send you permission note to Mrs. Raccio and your child’s classroom teacher.
I am looking forward to a great year where our faculty is able to live and share the love of Christ with you and your child. Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care.
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
