St. Michael's Academy
  :

On behalf of all of us at St. Michael's Academy, I hope you are enjoying a fun and productive summer vacation!

You should have already received a paper version of this Messenger during the past couple of weeks. Please be sure to keep the paper version handy and refer to it for important dates. Information contained in this document may answer your questions and save you a phone call to the Academy.  It is also extremely important that you continue to read the newsletter every week as this is one of our major lines of school to home communication.

Enclosed with the printed version of the newsletter, you received the Transportation Request and Extended Day forms. If you are in need of and/or qualify for either service, please remember these forms are due back at the Academy by Monday, August 13th.

Please make sure you reserve Thursday, August 23rd for the Back To School BBQ over at Nathan Bill Park. It's lots of fun and you won't want to miss it!

Over these summer months, please know that we continue to keep all of you - our returning and new families - in our prayers. We ask that God continue to bless your children during this time, that they may grow in grace through play and picnics, camps and friendships, family visits and vacations.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal

 Transportation Continued

Drop Off and Pick Up

Morning drop-off will occur between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Please do not pull through the parking lot to drop off your child. School buses will arrive at campus during that time frame. Breakfast in the classroom begins at 8:10 a.m. School dismissal will begin at 3:10 p.m. We will dismiss the car lines first, followed by bus students at approximately 3:20 p.m. and walkers to follow at 3:25 p.m.

Please note : students whose last names begin with A through L will be picked up on Wheeler Avenue, students with last names that begin with M through Z will be picked up on Eddywood Street. All preschool students will be dismissed on the Eddywood side of the building. When forming carlines, please be respectful of our neighbors and do not block residential driveway access.  No one is allowed to park in the parking lot during dismissal. Parking is also not allowed down the side streets across from Plumtree Road (Lancaster and Grandview Streets), and on the opposite side of the school block on Wheeler Avenue, Arvilla Street, and Eddywood Street.

STUDENTS SHOULD BE DROPPED OFF AND PICKED UP AT THE SIDEWALK.  PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE PARKING LOT TO DROP OFF OR PICK UP YOUR STUDENT.  Parents who enter the parking lot to drop off their child create a potential safety issue for people walking through the lot.  Also, unless there is a special circumstance, students will not be dismissed between 2:30 and 3:10 p.m.  Early dismissals should occur prior to 2:30 p.m.

Please set a good example for your child by following the school rules.

Please be patient and kind in the car lines!

Important Parent Volunteer Information!

Parent Volunteer Requirements

St. Michael's Academy welcomes all parent volunteers.  In order to volunteer at the school or chaperone a field trip, all parents must complete the Safe Environment Training as mandated by the Diocese of Springfield.

The CORI background check and the Code of Conduct forms must be completed as well as viewing the safe environment video. A certificate of completion for the video will be provided at the end of the training and must be brought to the school.  A link to required information and the training video can be found here.

If you plan to volunteer for the Walk-a-thon on Sept. 28th, the above training must be completed.  Please plan to set aside 1 1/2 hours  to view the safe environment video and complete testing modules.

 Girls On The Run

  Girls On The Run Continues!

OK girls...get ready for Girls On The Run at St. Michael's Academy this Fall!

Registration for the fall season is now open for Girls On The Run for girls in Grades 3-5 and Heart and Sole for girls in Grades 6-8! Each season, our girls learn to recognize their individual strengths, and gain a better understanding of who they are, what's important to them, the value of teamwork, and developing healthy relationships.

Over the course of the ten-week program, girls develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. All girls in Grades 3-5 and 6-8 are welcome - nobody needs to be a runner. Our fall season begins the first week in September and continues for 10 weeks, ending with our GOTR 5k at Smith College.

We are also still looking for additional coaches for both teams. Coaches do not need to be runners. We hope you will join us for another great season!

For more information, please contact Kristie Budrecki at [email protected] or 413-271-4700, or go to www.girlsontherunwesternma.org.

Food For Thought

"Everybody today seems to be in such a terrible rush, anxious for greater developments and greater riches and so on, so that children have very little time for their parents. Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace in the world."

                                   - St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta
